I had seen this several times with Tom Selleck. But it came on last night and I was surprised that it was a completely different production, with Lee Marvin in the lead. I do believe I liked it better!

I agree with you. The Lee Marvin character seemed more realistic to me. When they roped the stack on the locomotive in Sellecks version it ruined the film for me. Soundtrack was better on the older film.

They both have good moments , I usually prefer the original.      GW

I like both versions with a nod to the original version.

Wasn't Monte Walsh with the James Gang.......Oh, wait....that was Joe Walsh.

Naw... Joe Walsh was with Barnstorm.

Both were great. I liked the later version with Tom Selleck better, mainly because of the setting and scenery. There are also many different type of period firearms in the later film.

I absolutely loved the Tom Selleck version of Monte Walsh. That being said I have not seen the original so if anyone would like to send me their DVD I would be happy to spend an afternoon watching it, reflecting on it and posting my comments here.

My opinion at this point is the Tom Selleck version is one of my top favorite westerns. An outstanding movie in every respect.
