Goody, SASS #26190
I had seen this several times with Tom Selleck. But it came on last night and I was surprised that it was a completely different production, with Lee Marvin in the lead. I do believe I liked it better! Assassin
I agree with you. The Lee Marvin character seemed more realistic to me. When they roped the stack on the locomotive in Sellecks version it ruined the film for me. Soundtrack was better on the older film.
Rye Miles #13621
The Lee Marvin version was okay, but I think Selleck nailed it!!

Capt. James H. Callahan
Both are good, I think I prefer Selleck's version. For my money William Devane stole the show. This is one of my all time favorite movie scenes. JHC
J-BAR #18287
I enjoy both versions. It’s like a favorite symphony played by two different orchestras.
Cypress Sun
I like both versions with a nod to the original version. Wasn't Monte Walsh with the James Gang.......Oh, wait....that was Joe Walsh.

Big Sage, SASS #49891 Life
Both were great. I liked the later version with Tom Selleck better, mainly because of the setting and scenery. There are also many different type of period firearms in the later film.
Rex M Rugers #6621
I like both versions of the "Monte Walsh" movies , and also the novel that they came from. The train episode is in the novel. But Chet getting killed is not. Rex
Dantankerous
I absolutely loved the Tom Selleck version of Monte Walsh. That being said I have not seen the original so if anyone would like to send me their DVD I would be happy to spend an afternoon watching it, reflecting on it and posting my comments here. My opinion at this point is the Tom Selleck version is one of my top favorite westerns. An outstanding movie in every respect.
