Grampaw Willie, SASS No.26996
used to be screws were sold by the dozen, or by the gross: 144 pc. Now just by the pkg. or boxes of 100. Pencils Pencils were sold by the dozen -- nice pack -- 2 rows of 6 each now -- 10 packs ( i think we are getting screwed ) Batts. 10 paks who wants a 10 pak? Stuff likes to use 2 cells, or 3, or maybe 6 -- so we need batts to be sold by the dozen not in a 10 pack I think Bottles better put everybody's drinks on my tab for today after this silly little rant

Tyrel Cody
Well, technically we carry 10, not 12; gotta leave a empty chamber That said I'd be fine with 12-12-4+ stages from now on. Thanks for the drinks!

Outrider Outlaw
My guess--and this is a serious response--is that it is a way to increase profits. I've been noticing for some time now that many things--particularly food items--are now coming in smaller packages than they used to but cost the same as the older, larger amount. Just smaller by a few ounces but over hundreds and thousands of jars or packages that really adds up.

To avoid the case where your dozen might be a little light the baker would throw in an extra item. Doughnuts are sold by units, not weight, no need to put a thumb on the scale. Cliff Hanger #3720LR
I knew it...I knew it.... Forty Rod is that old. Forty Rod quote, " 2. I don't do metric. I was born before it was invented and see no reason to convert at my age. " Metric was introduced in 1670 by a French man then adopted by governments to standardize in early 1790s. Marshal Mo Hare, SASS #45984
Ok, a story for you. My mother's mother had 15, 9 boys, 6 girls from 1923 to 1944. the boys were, in order, George, John, Bob, Ralph, Jim, Donald, Walter, Raymond, and Stephen. In the 60s, John was a Chief Petty Officer. In his driveway in San Diego washing his truck. A sailor showed up walking up the driveway. sailor: "Are you John Perry? John:"who are you?" Sailor: "I''m your brother" John: "which one?" (there were 8 brothers) Sailor: "Ralph" John: "hold up your left hand' (Ralph had lost the end of his left middle finger to a blasting cap when in high school) After that they stayed in touch, John becoming Master Chief Boatswains Mate and senior NCO at San Diego training center before he retired and Ralph being based in Guam and becoming Master Chief Electronics Mate. Both died of cancer.
Dirty Low Down sass 23492
Really agree with the idea outland said----about retail products packaging----it's all about increasing the price of things without the ordinary shopper realizing it----------5 lb bag o sugar-now 4 lb--------pound o bacon is now 12 oz.----I use my empty plastic coffee cans in my reloading room----same size container that's several yrs old vs new one----label says older one had 6 oz. more coffee in it---------it's happened to all kinds of products!!!!!
