Warden Callaway
Dad may have been able to recognize some of those places. He went in D+3 and was in an Engineering battalion. He may have blown holes in some of the buildings. They learned not to go through the front door when clearing a building.

Forty Rod SASS 3935
It amazes me that, in places all blasted to hell 70+ years ago, how many building are still standing and in use today. My home town, which hasn't seen any fighting since the 1870s has about five original buildings left. Everything has been replaced by brand name, big box, giant stores and malls, condos, new college buildings, wide streets, and square miles of houses. Badlands Bob #61228
They built out of rock and then put slate roofs on their buildings. Makes for a very durable structure. We build houses with particle board siding and 15 year asphalt shingle roofs. Not so durable.
