. . so . . . who is at fault ?

Recommended Posts

There is a certain culture of taking things literally. No-fly below 32000 is just believed. 32001 is safe. Hot wars were so long ago that collateral damage is an after-thought, Some folks need a wake-up call.

(Who am I to talk? I have gone to Ukraine recently and will go again.)

According to the talking heads someone determined that this is a recognized path of travel for commercial flights. They rattled off a number of airlines and number off flights that occur using this route each month.

Seems to me if I was going to shoot down a commercial airline to make some sort of point I would choose a country that has no military capability to retaliate???? As in Malaysia. Shoot down a Russian or Chinese plane and watch what happens.

Just spouting opinions high atop Mount No Where.

And Utah Bob, not a Colorado type of high.

Lots of war zones around the world are overflown by comercial flights daily.

The blame lies solely with the Ukranian rebels and their Russian arms suppliers/trainers.

+1

The souls that perished due to their actions were innocent victims in the truest sense.

it takes over a year to learn to shoot a SA-11 or related SAM's. I wonder if the Russian-speaking insurgents in Ukraine make a mistake and address the Spetznatz officers as "sir"??!! The original Count Dracula was really called "Vlad the Impaler". Wonder if that makes you-know-who Vlad the Second?:ph34r:

It takes that long to understand how to use one properly, coordinate with other assets in a battlefield, operate the IFF, and other activities associated with a professional army.

In a week you can teach someone to drive it somewhere, energize the system, turn on the radar, and press "FIRE".

This is what happens when somebody gives big boy weapons to little boys.

Exactly. Push button to turn on. Push button to search. Push button to lock on. Push button to fire. That was probably about the extent of their training.

"Hey Uri, you have a computer at your farm. You're promoted to missle specialist. This calls for a drink"

Recipe for disaster.

Absolutely. without question.

The shortest distance equals the least fuel consumption. This was a globally recognized flight route. I don't think the pilots, crew or passengers had any second thoughts about flying over the Ukraine. I also think that Malasian Airlines thought that this was a safe route also...........after all, losing one 777 under mysterious circumstances had damn near shut them down. To fly into a possible area where a shoot down is possible is business suicide.
