Rance - SASS # 54090 Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 Quite a few years back... I was sighting in my Rugers... I had my bullet load (grains and bullet type and weight) I wanted to shoot and stay with.. Kept filing to POA... Geesh.. gotta take off quite a bit.. Used my belt sander...(goes faster.. not recommended) Last part was with a file.. Well I had one pistol done.. Hurrah!! Started on the second.. Ok.. I'll use the belt sander down to a certain point.. Whoops... Picked up the wrong Ruger.. I took some more off the front sight of the Ruger I had already done. Well.. Reckon it's already done.. live with it, Well... unless I want to buy a new front sight and pay somebody to put it on. Well at Midwest Classic this past weekend I was on the loading table a lot.. Riverview Rattler came up.. I was looking at his front sight.. Gold plated.. but it was different than just gold plating... It was a slotted gold sight that went over the old one.. I asked him if he liked it.. "Sure do.. Can pick up the front sight real quick." "Slick McClade has 'em." Up at the Vendors there was Gunsmith Frank selling Slick McClade's "Sure Hit Sights" Gold slip overs.. just what Riverview Rattler had.. hmmmm. Gunsmith Frank showed me how they went on.. slipped over the original sight.. little bit of epoxy.. Same height as the original Vaquero height.. Huuuhhh Dang ... That will fix the too short sight and give me gold sights ta boot.. Needless ta say I bought a set.. Put 'em on.. filed them down.. (not to where the others were) Now I need to get out and sight 'em in... Thanks Riverview Rattler, Gunsmith Frank and Slick McClade Rance Thinkin' problem fixed and new gold front sights.. Life is good .. Edit: Oh yeah.. almost fergot... I ain't a gunsmith!!
Grizzly Dave Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 Saw your title and I was gonna reccomend them, but you already found 'em.
Cassalong Hopidy Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 Can someone tell me how to order a set online or by phone? Thx
Rance - SASS # 54090 Posted April 30, 2013 Author Posted April 30, 2013 Can someone tell me how to order a set online or by phone? Thx I don't know how to post links.. but.. their online stuff is www.slickmagicguns.com or www.bfssights.com I got mine from Gunsmith Frank out of St. Charles Mo. 636-441-5897 Rance Thinkin' this might help Hope it does
Cowboy Junky Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 Made that mistake with my wife's pistols......when she started she could group a pistol but the group was low. I thought it was "just her sight picture" so I filed them down until she was ok. Then after a year we noticed she was hitting high and had no sights left.......lol. I actually took JB weld and built them up shaped them and you would have never known......they even lasted 3 years like that then we sold the guns.......still out there in cowboyland somewhere. I like the slip overs better......wish they were around then. These would also be great if you are buying used guns that don't work with your loads. Great idea.
Widder, SASS #59054 Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 I use em and love em. Highly recommend them. ..........Widder
Cypress Sun Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 I know that professional gunsmiths love Dremel tools in the hands of a amateur gunsmith, but I never heard of a belt sander before. Oh well, add that to list of tools not to use for gunsmithing. I know several folks with Slick's sight (or similar) inserts, they are all very pleased with them. CS

CS Hey CS.. notice my edit.. and yep.. more of a woodworker than a gunsmith Rance Thinkin' I put in 4 (drop in low profile) hammers in my Vaquero's in about 2 1/2 hours tho.. Lotta parts there pard oh yeah.. and they still work
Yellowhouse Sam # 25171 Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 Those ruger sights just press in. Easy to take out and put a new one in. Give Ruger a call.
Crazy Gun Barney, SASS #2428 Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 Saw the topic and was going to suggest the easy fix was to just aim low.

As you know, you can always take more off, but puttin' it back on... Oh well. You apparently know pretty close to where you need to be. I guess I'm just lucky. I've never owned a Ruger that had to be filed...and I've owned a bunch...still own a bunch. We hate that we missed hanging out will everyone this past weekend. It was Sugah's older daughter's prom weekend.
Dapper Dynamite Dick Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 I bought a set at Winter Range, hopefully I'll find the time to install them in the next couple of months.
Cassalong Hopidy Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 Thanks all. Got hold of Deuce and he is bringing a set to me at the Georgia match.
Dawg Hair, SASS #29557 Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 Power tools and gun owners............deadly combination! Aim real low.
Waimea Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 Guess you could always shoot OUTLAW. Then if you want to you could use that belt sander again and sand that pesky sight right off. Ya learn not to miss them sights so much after a while. Waimea
