Gunner Gatlin, SASS 10274L Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 Piers Morgan says there has to be another reason as Pope's don't do that - hmmmm, a liberal conspiracy theory. :lol:/> GG ~ :FlagAm:/>
Charlie Harley, #14153 Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 The Vatican makes provisions to keep running when the popes get to a certain age and infirmity until he dies. They've been doing it for 600+ years. I tend to agree with this writer. Benedict is a good man who came to the role with the greatest of ideals for how to lead the church, but reality is that he has not been effective and is not the right person to lead the church in the 21st century. He is stepping aside to let someone else take the reins and go forward. I do not believe there is any conspiracy or evil intent on anyone's part.

I like the closing paragraph in that linked article, Charlie. None of which lessens Benedict’s place in the line of Vicars of Christ. His decision to resign was a brave one, based on personal humility, in keeping with his message to the faithful that the things of Earth are transient, but the promise of heaven lasting and infinite. For that he should be remembered.
The O'Meara Himself Posted February 11, 2013 Posted February 11, 2013 OK, its time for me to dust off my resume once again. This will be the third time I've applied for the job, and if I deon't get it this time I'm going to apply somewhere else! How about "Pope Pugnacius II" or maybe "Pope Incontinent V" I did get a response from the Frisbeeterians (They believe that when you die your soul sails up on the roof and you can't get it back down) but it wasn't very civil. We'll see. The O'Meara Himself

Harvey Mushman Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 I like the closing paragraph in that linked article, Charlie. None of which lessens Benedict’s place in the line of Vicars of Christ. His decision to resign was a brave one, based on personal humility, in keeping with his message to the faithful that the things of Earth are transient, but the promise of heaven lasting and infinite. For that he should be remembered. I was raised Catholic and my values were formed by my parents and the Church. I was fortunate enough to have great and honorable nuns and priests. Ironically, those same values led me to leave the church when I could not accept one major teaching, and I could not be a hypocrite. I still greatly respect the values and have followed the evolution of the church and her leadership. I too would agree with this writer and his statement about the Pope. This took great personal courage on a huge public stage, and I admire him for that. Would that more less-than-successful leaders had that self awareness, perspective, humility and courage. Harvey

Charlie Harley, #14153 Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 Dear Clowns, I do apologize for degrading your fine and honorable profession in such a fashion. From henceforth I shall rephrase my earlier comment in the following fashion: "I do not believe that Mr. Morgan is evil. Just ignorant and foolish in a Congressman-like fashion." I prithee that my humblest supplication is acceptable in your sight.
