Buying Black Powder

Yep, Powder Inc usually has prices that are hard to beat.

Decide what powder you are looking for. There are some bargains that perform very well for CAS style shooting, like KiK and Diamondback, which save you about $4 a pound over Goex, if you are willing to shoot foreign-made powder.

Another shop that recently gave me good prices and great service was Back Creek GunShop,

Good luck, GJ

Ordering in those quantities may very well prompt a visit from the Federal agency of your choice!

What????

It is perfectly legal to order up to 50 pounds of black powder for personal (family) use in most jurisdictions, and have it shipped to you as a hazardous material.

But, of course, you should definitely understand and comply with any local storage rules. With the OP being in Montana, I would believe his local laws would be fairly permissive.

Good luck, GJ

Thanks guys

Some of these I was already knew about but some were new.

SCG

I shoot and like KIK.

We order 50# at a time and then split it up among several shooters. No problemo.

Maine Powder House, or Deer Creek. Both carry Schuetzen and offer free shipping & haxmat for 25lb+. Also Graf & Son's house brand is Schuetzen, burns much cleaner than Goex for the same price. Good Luck :)

Sorry folks, appears I was misinformed. Got that tidbit from a shooter whose information is usually very reliable. I've been limiting myself to ordering five pounds at a time - guess I can stop that.

LG, don't worry 'bout them black choppers - I see 'em all the time around my place, too. I think I'll go get my tinfoil hat now - me brain hurts! (gamma rays coming through the electrical outlets, don'cha know?!)

I'm looking for the best source to purchase black powder to be shipped to me.

I'm looking to buy 25 to 50 pounds.

Thank,

Sage Creek Gus

Graf and Sons is another source for BP. Their prices are pretty good if they are having a sale.

Another vote for Maine Powder House, they are "local" to me being in NH and have always had good prices on Schutzen, now my std powder for all uses. Last order there was a miscommunication and I got 4 cans of 4F instead of 1F for a pard I was splitting an order with. Getting the order squared away was going to be a major PITA until one of the folks said she and a friend were looking for someplace to take a weekend drive to. Turned out they took their drive to my local club, met me at the range and we swapped the powder. Thats customer service.

By the way a 20mm ammo can lined with heavy cardboard makes a fair BP safe. I'm going to get a hasp welded on mine and throw a padlock on it at some point.

Went in with a couple of pards and bought 25# of Diamond Back from Powder Inc. last summer, really good people to deal with.

Then found a deal on 35# Goex this past fall a friends parents estate was selling off that I split with a shooting buddy..
