I have heard that the military requires the model they purchased must have safety levers, M-17 and M-18) May be something to the story

Nope, a bad design that Sig-Sauer knew had issues but they pushed it out anyway

I’ve read that somewhere!

Didn't believe it because i got a couple and LOVE them. But I've seen them go off, on camera, in the holster. Cop was leaning into his cruiser to pick up something, hands no where near gun, bang, it goes off. All on video.

Didn't Remington have issues with triggers that they ignored for years?  Finally were forced to change the design.

Rem. 700.

The local law enforcement agencies discontinued using the P320 some years ago due to the problem.

Joe, i think you are right. It was in the 700 rifles, going off when ypu racked the bolt forward

Personal story..... My own P320 and its malfunction history.

I bought one of the earlier P320's, a few years before their 'recall'.   Their recall was due to a law suit dealing with

the 'Drop/Bang' situation of a gun owner, who won his case in court.

Anyhow, SIG recalled the P320's of certain serial numbers, of which mine was included.

Before I had a chance to return it, I was shooting it and seemingly got a couple 'double fires'.   Of course, this could have

been my finger on the trigger.   But then it happened.......... the gun fired 'out of battery'.

The magazine blew out the bottom and the magazine floor plate also blew off the magazine.

The grip panels broke in 2 places on the right side. (where my palm was).

The case split exactly into 2 pieces..... upper and lower, with the lower section looking like it was dropped in a meat grinder.

I don't recall any visible damage to the barrel or slide....... BUT, the slide was locked in the open position and jammed.

It was in .357 SIG caliber.... so there was some force behind the 'explosion'.

My hand wasn't hurt but did get a little 'sting'.

SIG replaced the pistol, of course with their NEW firing housing.   And I've shot it many times since then with

no more issues.

From my own experience, I can believe that it could fire without touching the trigger on those early productions.

..........Widder

If I remember right, they would also fire (without the trigger being engaged) when you flipped the safety on or off. I had a 700 in 7mm Rem Mag. While it didn't ever malfunction, I lost my trust in it and sold it. Actually made a little bit on it and the ammo.

The problem with the older Rem 700s was that the trigger was user adjustable via three screws.  And every Tom, Dick & Harry "knew how to do it".

Have four 700's & never had a problem.  I haven't bought a 700 in years, so I have no idea what a 700 trigger looks like now.

I have the Sig P320 that I actually got here off the SASS Wire Classifieds and then also purchased a new Sig P365 and neither have ever gone off on their own. I have no issues carrying either one as my EDC. Just practice good handling and keep your holster clear of any clothing that might get caught on the trigger and you are good to go. Neither of mine are for sale.
