Question about women's shoes

Occasionally, in a book, you have a woman wearing high heel shoes walking on rough ground. Rocks and sand and brush.

And the guy will offer to break off or cut off the heel, so at least she's got a pair of flats to walk in the rough with.

I've never walked in women's high heel shoes, but it just looks to me that if you broke the heel off, they would still not be comfortable. Because the sole has got that nice little L-shape to it.

So the question is, have any of you ladies ever tried to walk in a pair of high heels where the heel was broken off? Was it doable?

Yes you are correct.  I have had a heel get caught in a crevasse and break off.  It was not fun walking the last couple of blocks on one heel.  I ended up taking my shoes off and made the rest of the way in stockings.  Found a store where I picked up new shoes and stockings and was on my way.

Another question. Same book.

They're in the Mexican desert. And her pantyhose pretty much gets shredded, between the cacti and the mesquite and the greasewood and the rocks.

Then they have sex, because this is not a novel for children so of course they have sex.

The next morning she is trying to put her pantyhose back on, but there are so many holes in them that she keeps getting her feet stuck in the holes. The guy tells her that it looks like a waste of time and she should just give it up as a bad plan, and she responds that her mother told her that good girls always wore panties, or at least pantyhose.

Then she gets disgusted and pulls them off and watch them up (I thought I'd slid one past otto. WADS THEM UP) and throws them away.

I have as much experience with pantyhose as I do with high heels, but it seems to me that if the hose part was all shredded, you could hold on to the panty, and twist the hose till you get like a rope, and then cut that leg off of the panty. Then do the same to the other side. This is Matt Helm so of course he has a knife and it is sharp.

You would now be bare-legged, but at least you would not be going commando.

Is there any reason why this would not work? Would they unravel if you cut the leg off?

ive never walked in them either and never will - they look so uncomfortable as to be dangerous to ones health and welfare ,

Most women will tell you that high heels are either designed by the Devil himself, or an ardent misogynist.

My bride wears "sensible heels" when required, and they still hurt her feet.
When we go to Eastern Star events that are Formal, several of the women wear tennies under those floor length formals.

Worked in 'Nam to keep the bugs off.  Also was a good way to carry odds and ends.  Put them in the foot end and tie it to your belt or whatever

Having never worn heels or pantyhose I have no experience to relate other than a funny quip between my Dad and one of his buddies.

My Dad said “Virgil, your mother wore combat boots!”

Virgil: “At least my Dad didn’t wear heels and fishnets!”

Then more jocularity ensued. My Dad called it “The Dozens” as in “Dirty Dozens”.

Panty hose was a secret the hard core snow skiiers of my era used as kids.
They went a long way to staying warm when the outer jeans got snow-soaked.

I think that is why they have so many pairs of shoes, so they can swap them out every couple of hours for a fresh pair. LOL

Just wondering how many soldiers asked their wives or moms to send them pantyhose. LOL

Yeah, my wife runs half marathons and has about 20 pair of tennis.running shoes in the closet. Gets a new pair about every 3 months. Says she wears them out that quick with all the walking and running but the problem is that she doesn't throw the old ones away.
