Bad Bascomb, SASS # 47,494
Opportunity to replace a Kel-Tec .380 with a Kahr PM9,9mm for daily carry in my retail store. Kel-Tec is great in the comfort department. Super light and pleasant for all-day carry. But as Clint Smith says, one's weapon shouldn't be chosen for being comfortABLE, but rather comforTING. If you have a Kahr PM9, have you explored the Galloway trigger upgrade? And if so, what are your thoughts..... Thanks for any info on this. Creeker, SASS #43022
Bad, I have handled and shot many of the Kahr pistols - I don't understand why they are not more popular than they are. They are good shooters, reliable and while I am not familiar with the trigger upgrade you reference - I have always thought they had fairly good trigger feel (as carry guns go). I warm weather carry a Ruger LCP in 380 quite often and have recently myself felt the desire to move to a larger caliber (and higher capacity) during the summer (winter is usually my 45acp Springfield XD or 1911). I purchased a 15 + 1 9mm Smith Equalizer with red dot holo sight for my purposes as my only "downside" on the Kahr is the capacity of the single stack magazine. But if you're set on the Kahr or getting a smoking opportunity - I would not hesitate to own or carry one.
Bad Bascomb, SASS # 47,494
Thanks for the input. Winter is not so demanding for concealment/size issues, but as you know, summers here are different, hence the size considerations. I have a Colt Pocket 9, but don't care for the trigger action/feel (that means I don't shoot it very well/accurately). Being behind enemy lines here in the paradise of California, I'm limited to 10 rounds. Any use I can forsee in my situation should be handled adequately with a single-stack. I tried my Hungarian Makarov as a step up, but the reach to the trigger for the first double-action shot is just a little far, and the grip is a bit bulky to hide. Feels good in hand, and shoots well, but for the size/weight the advances in modern choices told me a 9 of some sort could be in my future...... 9mm Parabellum instead of a 9mm Kurz. Buckshot Bob
I have one, haven’t carried it since i got my P365. Mine has been very reliable. They have a trigger much like a da revolver. I have 2x hands and have come to the conclusion the little sig is about as small as I can go and still shoot well. And I always have the extended mag in it. If you are happy with the Kahrs size, capacity and trigger I think it will serve you well, definitely a quality piece
Bad Bascomb, SASS # 47,494
To BB from BB: Thanks for the response. I have wide palms and short fingers (Teutonic heritage) and the Kahr seems to fit well. FWIW I could never comfortably shoot a Berretta 92 due to grip circumference. BB
Creeker, SASS #43022
Bad, I completely failed to consider your states magazine capacity challenges. With Cali magazine limits - there is ZERO reason to not go with the Kahr. I'm sure you will be very pleased. Sorry to remind you that your neighbors have access to larger magazines. Painted Lady and I are hoping to come to come shoot with you and Goode at RRV sometime soon.
Bad Bascomb, SASS # 47,494
Keep an eye on website. We normally do 1st and 3rd Saturdays, and summer hours dictate open gate at 7, shooting by 8 in order to beat the heat. On other Saturdays there are often Trailwalk black powder front stuffer events or BAMM matches. Summer heat means shortened stages, so more bang for your buck when things cool down. Welcome anytime, and would enjoy shooting with you again. Thanks for the Kahr tips. Regards, BB

If you have a Kahr PM9, have you explored the Galloway trigger upgrade? And if so, what are your thoughts..... Thanks for any info on this. BB I have the PM9, P45 and P380 and like all of them. All three have been very reliable* and surprisingly accurate. Recoil for the PM9 and P380 is mild considering the size of the gun, less than a Makarov. A friend who fired my P45 says it recoils much like a Officer's Model 1911. I have not tried the Galloway trigger upgrade since I wasn't even aware of it. The trigger on all three is about 7.5 lbs and smooth. Perhaps the only "quirk" to the PM9 or P380 is that is best the lock the slide back and use the slide release to chamber the first round. It's not a flaw in the gun, but that most people won't pull the slide 100% to the rear when chambering the first round. If the Kahr is used I would recommend replacing the recoil spring and you MAY need to clip a coil off the recoil spring. That's from first hand experience. * With factory ammo or quality reloads, I don't think any of my Kahr's have jammed.
DeaconKC
I have carried Kahrs for many years and really like them. I think you would be very well served by a PM9.
Crooked River Pete, SASS 43485
I have a PM 45 great gun but kicks to hard for me now days. Never had any trouble with feeding or firing. I had a Galloway trigger in a S&W SD9, helped but not much.
Abilene Slim SASS 81783
There are a number of videos to be found at these links. Looks like a deep rabbit hole to explore! I like Hickok’s comparison and chapter 2 videos. Kulshan 20262
PM45 here. I had to file the lip off of the bottom of the mag on the front. I came right in the middle of my pinkie finger.

Chantry
I'll note that my Kahr P380 kicks LESS than the Kel-Tec P32 it replaced and that PM9 kicks less than my all steel Makarov
Pb Mark
Bought a PM9 with night sights soon after they came out. Still have it, still (rotation) carry it. They recommend a 200-round break-in. Mine was perfect from round one. Zero jams or misfeeds believe it or not. I also shoot lead bullets in the polygon barrel. +P and above rated. The actual gun has changed design. The originals were a bit shorter in the slide. Due to this there is an old and new model recoil spring assembly so make sure you buy the correct spare. The only negative - If you carry a spare magazine, put in inside something, not just in your pocket. The design will spit bullets out of it if it is rattling around in your pocket. I use factory 6 and 7 round magazines. Zero experience with the longer factory magazines but they do fit. Recommend a Jasson Winnie J201 low riding IWB leather holster for it. Accuracy is unbelievably good. If you are good enough to outshoot it, you may notice first round tends to be high/right in your group. I can't slingshot the slide. I use the slide lock. Slide lock was the only thing that had a sharp edge to buff off. I put grip decals on mine vs the factory stippling,
Three Foot Johnson
I've carried the similar CM9 for the past eight years, but I recently bought a Springfield Hellcat... just cuz. No problems whatsoever with the Kahr, and it shoots anything I put in it.
Pb Mark
This is the slide geometry of the original PM9. They added the bevel and increased the slide length on the ones currently sold.
Pb Mark
Something fairly important that I forgot. When I first got mine, I was popping the magazine release occasionally during the decision to carry evaluation. I called Kahr and complained. They sold me (did not give me) a heavier magazine release spring. Just a wire spring inside the grip, like a Glock. Takes about a minute to swap. I do believe they fixed this issue with the later revisions.
