Chief Rick
Anyone on the 'wire run a club website? I see GoDaddy has a free plan but I don't know if it will work for a club website. Looking for ideas. Simple to set up and run, and low cost (or free if it's possible).
Matthew Duncan
Yes I do. A telephone company hosts the website. I use RapidWeaver (low cost) to design and maintain the website. FileZilla to move files. http://www.wolffsrowdyrangers.com/
Black Hills Barb
My daughter set us up with a Go Daddy site. http://www.elpossegrande.com/ I'm not tech savvy enough to really answer your question with much more than that though.

I built and maintain our current site using the website builder on IONOS. https://www.ionos.com/ The tool is fairly straight forward to use. For most websites it's more that adequate. https://www.so-mo-rangers.com/ I'm planning a major upgrade to the site that will employ video backgrounds. To support that I will be migrating from IONOS to WIX. https://www.wix.com/
Popcorn Kelly
We use WordPress. Very flexible and as simple or robust as you need. They provide a selection of free templates and host the domain. They have a free option but we went with the lowest paid plan - $110/yr. including the domain. Great customer service. https://www.illowairregulars.com

Garrison Joe, SASS #60708
We've used GoDaddy site hosting due to low (almost free) initial cost for a club site. But over the years, the cost of the service has increased to about $250 a year. I used to build web front ends (and back ends and databases) for a living for a very critical audience. So I can handle most of the development and maintenance without many tools. But a good web site builder program is a life saver for folks who don't know the Web Ways. And yep, FileZilla is a wonderful and free file transfer tool. Almost no one installs enough security software to prevent even the level of cyber attacks that were common 10 years ago. The alternative if you don't want to learn (or buy) a current level of protection - keep a complete backup of your web files and any data OFF LINE, on your own computer or a special computer only plugged into the internet when doing a monthly backup. then, when ransom demands or Denial of Service attacks come in, you can jettison your web site and go start a new one quickly. None of the site hosting companies have enough firepower to keep all the hackers out of your site for a long time. good luck, GJ
