Understand that!  But I guarantee we’re not the only people poking fun with them, just like we do with all the other services.

Oh, I know.  There is a huge whiteboard in my "cubicle farm" that has a running list of "suggestions" for what to call the service members.  "Space Man First Class" won't cut it.  It was supposed to be a serious inquiry because the brass is truly stumped, but there isn't a serious suggestion on there.

The plans to incorporate National Guard and Reserve elements into the Space Force are several years away.  Currently the Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard units that are space organizations have a TACON relationship to the USSF.  Eventually they will be USSF Reserve and USSF National Guard.

In my weekend job I work Army space operations.  They are exploring whether our service will retain us or whether we should transition to USSF.  Given that I am qualified in two MOSs, I will not be making the transition for various reasons I won't post here.

Guaranteed that will happen. I reckon anything above the ionosphere will be a Space Force responsibility.

I’m still aggravated from the Air Force taking the army’s Caribou away in 67.

"Spacer" wouldn't cut it, either.

Given the scope of the responsibilities a rating system as is used in the Navy makes the most sense, since most of the USSF will be dealing with technical analysis.  Or some combination of rating for junior enlisted and then going to the more conventional rank structure for senior enlisted and officers.

Which still doesn't address what the equivalent of seaman, airman, soldier, or Marine should be.  I saw online some suggestions such as "Technician" or "Crewman."    Neither term seeming to inspire esprit de corps.

They should have anticipated that.

And do you have sufficient Space in your cubicle farm?

Yes, but I'm key developmentally qualified as an MP, having done my battalion command in an MP unit.  If they force the space people to the USSF Reserves, I will flip-flop my primary and secondary MOS, and stay in the MP world.  I'll explain why over private messaging, but not publicly.

It's funny you mention that.  Last year, as the whole space thing came to the forefront (which was recommended by a SECDEF report issued in 1998!!!!) we began expanding our operations.  That included hiring new people.  We haven't reached it yet as we continue to grow, but we figure our office alone will quadruple from what it was last year.  As a result, the Air Force (we weren't under USSF yet) spent a ton of money to make our cubicles SMALLER.  They are now the absolute minimum size that OSHA allows for full-time employees.

So, no, this Space Force civilian contractor doesn't have enough space.

I like it! I like it!  I filled out a preliminary form online.  Even though I put down my actual date of birth (1942), I actually got an email from an Air Force SSgt recruiter near me!  I had to reply that I am about 51 years too late, and with Type II diabetes, and a few other things, I don't think they would want me.  Oh, I could probably control satellites...or sweep or mop the floors.  There is an AF base near me, and part of it has some huge "golf balls" that do something with satellites (or they used to some years back when I took a tour).  Given the proposed officer's rank, I don't think I'd like being called Lieutenant (O-3) again, but I never rose to O-6 (proposed as captain instead of colonel).  All I know about "space cadets" is that about 66 of the most recent USAFA graduates went Space Force.  :FlagAm:

Stay well, Pards!

Seeing as how this “force” will not actually go into space I think Specialist ranks below E5 would be appropriate and Air Force or Navy tank for non coms and officers. Except for the Airman rank, the Air Force stick with their army grades when they organized in ‘48.

USSF service members should be Galaxions. You will thank me later. Maybe in another dimension.
