Tequila Shooter
A good friend of mine has an older Springfield Arms SxS shotgun that the fore-end is missing. The gun has sentimental value so he's trying to find someone to make it. He can't find a model name/number only mark besides brand is "proof tested 12 GA". Anyone know someone that can make this? You will need all the hardware that holds the wood to the gun. Without that you can't even begin.

Nettle in a Kansas wheat field. I have a more than a dozen old doubles and it's impossible to exchange the forend from one to another even same brand and model. Abilene, SASS # 27489
If it is just going to be a wall hanger, take any old forend and glue it on. If he wants it functional, then what they ^^^ said.

Garrison Joe, SASS #60708
Well, you have about half the fore end iron. The latch part that embeds into the wood is missing. Good luck, GJ
Chickasaw Bill SASS #70001
without dims , I would guess a 311 or a 5100 fore end wood could be ADAPTED to fit it will require hand fitting , and a bit of luck , the other option is to make one from scratch it will NOT be cheap due to the amount of time needed to do it right , as to matching the grain , to the stock , it would very hard looked in my little parts stash , NO joy , best bet it hit flEa bay , and hope there is something at a reasonable cost having done a couple from scratch , I DON'T want to do it again , real PITA having the froe end iron , helps you a great deal hope this is of help Chickasaw

Tequila Shooter
Thanks Pards! @Garrison Joe, SASS #60708, I didn't even think about the parts that are supposed to be on the fore-end. @Chickasaw Bill SASS #70001 I think you're 100% right about the PITA, and I know that he doesn't have the patience or the time to make one himself. @Warden Callaway thanks for the link I'll send it to him today. Chickasaw Bill SASS #70001
IF you get a fore arm , fit the wood to the steel you have , as the iron , will most likely be different I think the 311 /5100 is a snap type fore arm , and it looks like there is enough there to make it hold together CB

Garrison Joe, SASS #60708
Quote I think Joe is correct. No, looking as closely as I can at the photos, I believe this Springfield is one of the models of side-by-sides that has a Baker type "snap-on" forearm with no latch on the external surface of the forearm. (This type of latch can surprise the owner with how strongly it snaps closed. A lot of original wooden forearms were broken by forgetting to keep a set of finger tips where they would cushion the speed of the forearm closing up. Maybe that's where the wood on this one went....) This looks real similar to a Stevens 315. Springfield was a low-price subsidary of Stevens at the time this was made, most likely. And the Springfield production shared model numbers with the equivalent Stevens guns. So, if you needed parts, I would look first for a Stevens 315. That model was made from about 1910 to 1960, in fairly large numbers, so it may be possible to find parts. Numrich, though, does not have forearm wood in stock for the 12 gauge 315. Here's a video of one taken down and reassembled. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OImgfuEGNas Here's a Stevens 315 schematic that shows there is no real LATCH part, just the hardware that is still attached to the gun. https://www.gunpartscorp.com/gun-manufacturer/savstevspgfld/shotguns-sav/315 And some history on the production dates for the Model 315 https://projectupland.com/shotguns-and-shooting/the-stevens-315-side-by-side-shotgun-history-cost-and-use-2/ If you become SURE that this is a Model 315, here's a forearm and iron parts for 12 gauge on EBay. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Savage-STEVENS-315-5100-311-12-G-Shotgun-COMPLETE-FOREND-Stock-Vintage-Gun-Part/202970102383?hash=item2f41f5fa6f:g:F64AAOSwN8JenOZq Bidding ends in 5 days. And, you will probably want to fit the forearm properly. Larry Potterfield (Midway) shows how it is done on a very similar Remington 1900. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_gI3WX6Uww Good luck, GJ

Warden Callaway
1 hour ago, Kid Rich said: Some of them are spring loaded and do not have anything to press, just pull down on the forearm. kR Since this one does not have wood, you'll likely have to take something like a screwdriver and pry up on the forward end. A 1/2" or so and the spring latch will overcenter and the bracket will pop off.

A one man operation, sometimes I get an answer from him in a week, other times longer. Haven't found a part that I needed one time after several tries, even though his online catalog hints he has 'em. http://www.gun-parts.com Jack First has a good supply of older parts. https://jack-first-gun-parts.myshopify.com/ Sometimes Granpa's Gun Parts can come through, especially military stuff. https://www.granpasgunparts.com Numrich/Gun Parts Corporation is hit or miss anymore. They seem to have sold all their surplus or bought-out-old-stock and manufacturers' parts and now have to buy and dismantle guns to get parts to sell, so sometimes they have stuff and sometimes not. http://www.gunpartscorp.com/ GJ
Ramblin Gambler
This has been an amazing thread. Ace_of_Hearts
Whether it rotted or the wood just split and fell off is unknown. Someone has to sit at a bench and hand make one to fit. Not difficult but time consuming.

From what my friend told me was that the SG was that way when his father in law passed away, he doesn't know what happened to it either. I'm thinking that he's doing this for his wife, she was very close to her Dad. And I agree with you the guys on this forum are incredible.
