The Original Lumpy Gritz Posted December 6, 2014 Posted December 6, 2014 Best thing to do-replace it with a Timney Trigger. Far better trigger, all around-- http://www.timneytriggers.com/shop/timney-remington-700-replacement-trigger.aspx OLG
Utah Bob #35998 Posted December 6, 2014 Author Posted December 6, 2014 People have been talking about this for a long time.
Birdgun Quail, SASS #63663 Posted December 6, 2014 Posted December 6, 2014 I've got a .30-06 Remington 700 ADL that I bought back in the late 60's. I've never had a problem, but I'm still going to send the gun in. My nephew has it now and I told him I wanted it reworked so if there is every an accidental discharge, we can't be sued for not having a known mechanical safety issue fixed. Yes, I know that proper gun handling is the first line of gun safety. I just think not having it reworked would be irresponsible on my part. Thanks UB for the heads up and link.
Badlands Bob #61228 Posted December 6, 2014 Posted December 6, 2014 I had a Mauser 30-06 rifle that was dangerous. If you pulled the trigger with the safety on and then flipped off the safety, the rifle would discharge. It would sure get your attention about 6:00 a.m. sitting in a deer stand. I got rid of that thing.
Trailrider #896 Posted December 6, 2014 Posted December 6, 2014 I was hunting with a gent years ago, who had an AD when he took the safety off his rifle. No idea what make and model. Fortunately, nobody hurt, but it scared every elk in the area away! Never had a problem with my Pre-64 Model 70 Winchester, nor a custom Mauser 98 with some sort of trigger (either Timney or Canjar).
Badger Mountain Charlie SASS #43172 Posted December 6, 2014 Posted December 6, 2014 I almost bought a Rem 700 in .243 some years ago. Guess I didn't really need one. Maybe it is good that I didn't. It was used.
Yellowhouse Sam # 25171 Posted December 6, 2014 Posted December 6, 2014 Every case of malfunction ive known of involved people improperly adjusting the triggers. There are millions out there that have proven to be safe over the long haul.
Charlie Whiskers Posted December 6, 2014 Posted December 6, 2014 I have a 700 in 270 that I got in the mid 80's. Never have had a problem with that one.
Grizzly Dave Posted December 6, 2014 Posted December 6, 2014 I'll be interested to check in a week or two and see if they have a list of serial number ranges or years or whatever or if it's every one ever made. I have a 700 BDL Left Handed that came out of the custom shop somewhere around 1980. I guess all left handed models came out of the custom shop at the time, or at least that's what I've been told. Anyway, never had the problem, and have tried to replicate it several times after reading the horror stories and was not able to. I don't hunt with it, or at all for that matter any more, so not a major deal, but if it's effected I imagine I will get it fixed. As others have said I would hate for someone down the line to have a problem that I could have fixed ahead of time. My great Aunt who I used to take catfish to told me one time she wanted to buy me something to remember her by, something I really wanted but wouldn't buy myself, a left handed rifle was all I could think of, but I told her it was too much. She asked how much, I told her, she said 'that's all? Lets go'. Had to order it and wait a few months before it came in. I may never use it any more, but I sure won't sell it.
Double Tap Taylor Posted December 6, 2014 Posted December 6, 2014 The gunsmith said I had a 40x trigger in mine when he was changing it to except mags. But still very careful with it. You can never be to safe.
The Original Lumpy Gritz Posted December 6, 2014 Posted December 6, 2014 I wouldn't trust those monkeys at Remington, to change a roll to toilet paper. OLG
Badger Mountain Charlie SASS #43172 Posted December 6, 2014 Posted December 6, 2014 I wouldn't trust those monkeys at Remington, to change a roll to toilet paper. OLG They have kinda destroyed their reputation. Even helped Marlin out in that regard. I have a Remington 11-87 that was produced in the 1980s, as a virtual shotgun. It seems to function just bully. But I would not buy a new Remington.
The Original Lumpy Gritz Posted December 6, 2014 Posted December 6, 2014 I too have a 11-87, 12ga. Softest shooting 12 ga I have ever fired. Use it for trap, at least once a week. OLG
Badger Mountain Charlie SASS #43172 Posted December 6, 2014 Posted December 6, 2014 That is what I have been using mine for also. I got one of those little wire dohickies that fit on the side to hold the fired shell in the chamber so I don't have to scavenger the empty hulls off the ground. Some places frown on that. Since I reload, it is a real +. You are correct about it being a soft shooter. My only complaint about mine, is I don't get to shoot it near enough. Since Willie Wheelgun passed, I haven't had a shooting partner, so I have not been to the range. I ran into a friend the other day and we discussed it, so maybe this spring i can pop a few birds with him.
Cheyenne Culpepper 32827 Posted December 6, 2014 Posted December 6, 2014 I've got one of those 700s that you can't open the bolt without taking the safety off,,, never liked that at all!!! I'm real careful with it,,, can't imagine flipping off a safety without the muzzle pointed in a safe direction... be glad to send it for a new trigger, I've taken countless deer with it
Lazarus Longshot, SASS #44254 Life Posted December 6, 2014 Posted December 6, 2014 Recall info on Remington's website: http://www.remington.com/pages/news-and-resources/safety-center/safety-warning-recall-notice-Remington-model700-modelseven.aspx Looks like they're not going to release serial numbers. If your rifle might be affected, they want you to call in with your serial number to check. Also, this only effects the XMP trigger group. Or you can enter your serial number at xmprecall.remington.com . If your trigger is ribbed, it's not an XMP and is not involved in the recall. Laz
Charlie Whiskers Posted December 6, 2014 Posted December 6, 2014 Thanks for the link LL. I just checked my 700 and it has the ribbed trigger and not subject to recall.
largo casey #19191 Posted December 6, 2014 Posted December 6, 2014 I just got my 2 Remington 600's fixed a couple of week's ago. They are also affected with this recall which has been going since 1979.Mine went from here to a gunsmith in Commache Texas..If you call Remington they will send you shipping labels to the nearest repair center to you..I would not have known about the recall if it wasn't for my freind Ruff Cobb. I am also finally geting a new barrel on a 44 Marlin Cowboy, whichI have been trying to get for years.. Largo
largo casey #19191 Posted December 6, 2014 Posted December 6, 2014 OH forgot This recall is suppose to be good til the 31'st of December... Largo

Grizzly Dave Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 The current recall says PRODUCTS: Remington Arms Company, LLC (“Remington”) is voluntarily recalling Remington Model 700™ and Model Seven™ rifles with X-Mark Pro® (“XMP®”) triggers, manufactured from May 1, 2006 to April 9, 2014. Mine was made in about 1980, is there an earlier recall on those?
largo casey #19191 Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Dave you might check into it deeper.I believe that both of my 600's were made in the 60's & I had both of them repaired recently. If you can't open the bolt with the safety on it probably needs the fix..They called it the A U008 Bolt lock safety mod..The phone# I used is 1-800-243-9700..I hope this helps Largo
Badger Mountain Charlie SASS #43172 Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 By all means call, Dave.
largo casey #19191 Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 I just did some more checking & it showed the affected arms to be Remington 700 Seven Sportsman78 673 710 715 770 600 660 XP100 721 722 725..I anyone has one of these models you should check into it... Largo
Three Foot Johnson Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 I've had several 700's, but currently only have one; an ADL .22-250, and the s/n search engine above indicates it is not in the range of the recall.
