Abilene, SASS # 27489
Well, if Ward Bond gets a DQ for that shot, then you will also have to DQ Andy Devine as most of his shots go over the berm
Wyatt
You didn't see that he skipped that round off the river that then ricocheted off the mountain in the background that took the Indian off his horse in the following scene going up the river bank. First film tricked shot.
Jake Dunson
Watch John Wayne really closely part of the time he is shootins a 92 carbine and then a 92 rirle.
Bart Solo
John Wayne always was one for changing equipment in the middle of a scene. I remember him changing gunbelts between back to back scenes in one of a post civil war movie with Rock Hudson. One didn't have cartridge loops as one might expect in 1865 and the second did. Of course he always used a 92 even in movies set in the 1850s.
Brooklyn Slim
The time of the movie was 1868 (opening credits). None of the weapons used were available at that time. Still a great movie with Wayne at his best.

royal barnes sass #5792
Yes, I believe it would have been a match DQ but then who's going to call it? If you look closely at the scene where the cavalry is crossing the river you can see a car moving across the skyline in the very back. It proceeds a short distance then stops. The SAA's and the '92's were not the only things not available in 1868.
Fillmore Coffins, SASS #7884
How about Captain / Reverend throwing his hat at Duke without looking and hitting Duke square in the gut. Fillmore
Big Jake1001
John Wayne has a '92 rifle with a crescent buttstock when talking to Ward Bond, then he shootin' a '92 Carbine. The '92 Rifle he's holding when trying to shoot the last shot has a straight (shotgun) buttstock. So there were 3 different ones used for the scene. Just sayin' Jake
