Howdy all :

It has been a long and mighty struggle ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, But we have managed to reverse 20 years of bad law ...

Did gun owners get everything they wanted ???? ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, No but this is the biggest step ever in reversing stupid and wasteful Anti-gun Law ever achieved in Canadian History!!!

And now the next steps can begin .....

It is a LOT harder to repeal bad law than to stop it before it becomes law !!!

America beware of those that promise the Moon,Stars and free health care for all ,,,,,,, While only asking you not to think and all in the name of Public Saftey ....

I'll take a man with a firm morale understanding and NO plan ,,,over a man with a plan and NO Morales any day....

Jabez, I don’t want to hijack your thread, but I’m curious how many people from the United States shoot matches up there. After retirement my wife and I want to see some of your beautiful country with our RV and I would like to shoot some CAS while there. However, when I try to read up on the requirements to bring my guns it looks very intimidating. I’m thinking that if there are quite a few from the US shooting your matches then meeting the requirements is doable. By the way, congrates on reversing that registry.

Does that mean we can now visit with a long gun when we go to hunt? I have heard of the nightmares involved with stopping at check stations, etc.

THe next step is if Canada can get a constitutional amendment that recognizes a God-given right for free men to be armed. (Keep and bear). It would be great if they would let their people carry pistols.

It is easyer For A non Canadian citzen to get a longterm transportation lic. and a PAl (a lic. to buy and own guns)to come and shoot Cowboy events here in Canada... That includes handguns ...

Some of our shoots will have 10% or there about shooters from south of the line ...

Sorry if I hit a sore spot ,,,,,, I'm trying to keep some from falling asleep and leting bad law get in, many gunowners sat back and Said "We have Rights here in Canada, they will never get that passed here in Canada" .... Well they the vocal Ainties got it done ,,,, before the majority woke-up ,,,, and said what Happened .....

And I said "Only what I was warning you could Happen"

As for our Government,,, we kicked the Liberals out of Power (think Demmies)and put in a new government, that now at long last had the power to keep their promise to repeal this law ........ And quess what THEY did !!!!

Does that sound like your Government ,,,,, Keeping their Election promise to the people ???

Canada doesn't have a Bill of Rights, and almost no one outside the United States understands the importance we attach to it. Anti-gun folks wouldn't mind passing laws, and many claim the 2nd Amendment is obsolete, but I can't think of anyone who wants to actually repeal it because, the feeling is, if you can repeal part of the Bill of Rights you can repeal all of it. There are a few ultra-rightists here who will claim the Liberals wouldn't mind this, but ask them to come up with names and they can't. My own feeling is that this nation stands a better chance of becoming a Christian dictatorship than of repealing a piece of the Bill of Rights.

And before you answer, let me ask you whether you are aware of the process a repeal would have to go through?

Edit: Historical footnote: Since 1789, and including the Bill of Rights (the 1st 10 amendments, which were adopted immediately), the Constitution has been amended only 27 times. That's only 17 times since the Bill of Rights, and only 15 times if you remember that one of the amendments was passed to repeal another, thus canceling each other out. 15 basic changes to the law of the land in 223 years. And one final thought: Except for Prohibition, every single amendment has been designed to broaden the rights of the citizen, and the backlash against Prohibition was and still is so strong that there will almost certainly never be another amendment designed to restrict those rights.

Sorry for the rant, but I get so sick and tired of our right-wing "patriots" who insult our way of life by insisting it can be torn up without a moment's notice by anyone they disagree with. Our Constitution is a lot stronger, and our people are a lot smarter, than they want to give credit for.

I have been to Quebec twice to bear hunt by the best father-in-law a man could have. He has four sons but included me also which I will always be grateful.

The paper work and time spent at the border was unreal on our side of the deal. We had to open all our gun cases and have them record each gun and it's serial numbers.

I had a Remington 300 Short Action Ultra Magnum and in the paper work I wrote the same description as given by Remington. I wrote in Remington model 7 SAUM. The Homeland Security female that I had asked me why I entered false information and why I was trying to deceive them.

I explained that I had not entered any false information and that it was all correct.

They kept us at the border for over three hours.

We also had a problem when I was asked If I was carrying any liquor and I said no, and they found a case of beer in the cargo area that my brother-in-law had thrown in with out my knowledge.

You would of thought that they had found heroin and they way they reacted was unreal.

They then went through my medical bag which with me being a insulin dependant Diabetic contained insulin, syringes, and several precription pills. They asked me what each one was for and if it was mine even though each carried the proper label.

I told my father-in-law that I had heard that Canada was bad but I could not believe the trouble we had trying to leave the United States. UNREAL!!

I even showed them my former ID as a police officer and my veteran standings.

I love my country but we do have some problems.

I'd be glad to discuss it with you if you are going to be at the Green Mountain Mayhem.

Yes I am. Just so I understand, you are claiming that these people are on record as stating they want to have the 2nd Amendment and/or the Bill of Rights repealed. Is that correct? Or is it merely your opinion that that's what they're trying to do? If it's your opinion, then you'r entitled to it. If it's your claim that it's a fact, I'm going to want to see a copy of the tape or the document.

Fairshake, your post is unclear as to whether those problems came on trying to get back into the US. Sounds like it was from the overall post.

For most of my life getting back into the US has always been a harder proposition than getting into Canada. It has been annoying at times over the years.

I see you are into ancient conspiracy theories. How about current and future ones? That's what the Brit's, the Aussie's, and the Brazilians thought before their right to bear arms was revoked. (A + B = C)

I'll bring quotes and sources. Read between the lines.

See you there.

Ah, I thought so. It's a matter of "interpretation." A + B = 2 7/8.

I still say the Constitution is stronger and our people smarter than you want to credit.

You are probley not Aware of this but, Canadians HAD A BILL OF RIGHTS untill they let a smooth talking French-Canadian into government ..... And He and his cronies took care of that .... Funny thing about that they was all Liberals and All Hypenated Canadians ,, French-Canadians

They did it under the guise of "Re-paternating" our Consituition ....

And some just stood around crying "It can't happen here we have rights" till they had none ...

Maybe you should read your own historians. According to Pierre Berton , the Canadians made a conscious choice for British law and order over American individual rights. You wanted law and order, you got it.

I have crossed the US/ Canadian boarder every year for the last 20 some years pulling a boat trailer so fully loaded that you couldnt have fit a another fishing lure in it. The truck was just as bad. We camped in very northern Ontario 50 miles back into the bush outside of Timmins where everything you needed for the two week stay had to be carried in on an abandoned logging road. The most time I ever spent at the crossing into Canada was still under 2 minutes while the customs officer kept asking where my gun was since he had seen the shirt I was wearing with my dept. logo. Took a minute of friendly bantering to impress on him I was on vacation. Crossing back into the USA was always just as easy. They always asked about alcohol and I always replied that I had a couple of bottles too many and was always waved on.

I have always found that rural Canadians are some of the greatest folks that I have ever met. Unfortunately they suffer from the same problems that we face in some states here, Liberal city dwellers controlling the lives of rural families with out having any clue about rural life.

Oh, and Badlands Beady, as has been stated Canada once had a bill of rights. England had a similar "right to bear arms". Eventually, it just didn't matter.

Any more than it did in Washington, DC or Chicago area.

The anti-gun "liberals**" are following the same plan and methods used in England and even from 1930's Germany to strip away the right to bear arms as our founding fathers intended. And it has worked pretty well for them until the recent Supreme court cases, but we still do not have it clarified if we have the right to actually bear arms outside our homes if the government wants to restrict it.

** They claim to be liberal, but they are anything but liberal when it comes to most of the rights of people. They act more like hard line communists or fascists in so many areas.

I've always wondered about this: Without getting specifically political, define "liberal," "Liberal," "left" and "Democrat."

Personally, I don't have a problem with specific gun control measures: minors must be accompanied by adults, no guns in schools or government buildings, etc. Further, while I live in Vermont and can freely carry, and sometimes (rarely) do, I usually don't feel the need. To my mind, the vast majority of pro-control folks are generally sincere and honest folk who have the same problem that all of us do, settling too quickly for an easy answer; in this case, people are being killed with guns, therefore get rid of the guns. It's perfectly understandable that they think this way. We all do it, just in different areas. Just like anti-control folk tend to see pro-control folk as fascists and communists, and nothing more. Many on both sides will do anything they can to avoid admitting the other side has a point or two, which helps neither side.

Example: After Virginia Tech, there was a lot of noise about allowing guns on school campuses. I can buy the argument that had there been more guns available, the killer would have been brought down sooner. OTOH, I have my doubts about freely mixing crowds of overage teenagers away from parental authority for the first time, dormitories, unlimited beer and unrestricted access to firearms. If you have reservations similar to mine, then you are in danger of being accused of being pro-gun control; if you don't, you're no better than a pro-abortionist.

A Christian dictatorship??? HAR!! That is absolutely the funniest thing I have ever heard. There is absolutely ZERO chance of that happening short of the Second Coming. Increasingly more and more denizens of the US are mind-numbed dullards who only care about American Idol, the NFL, NBA, etc and swigging brewskis and addling themselves with recreational and prescription dope.

Anyone who doesn't believe the current POTUS would repeal the 2nd Amendment if he possibly could and mandate each and EVERY personally owned firearm be turned in and melted down is seriously deluding themselves. His imminent re-election will be the beginning of the end of the trail for us.

Lest anyone doubt that there are those who would subvert our constitutional right to "keep and bear arms" read the following statements from U.S. government officials in their own words:

"Our task of creating a socialist America can only succeed when those who would resist us have been totally disarmed." Sarah Brady (wife of former White House press secretary James Brady)

"Banning all guns addresses a fundamental right of all Americans to feel safe." U.S. Senator Diane Feinstein (D - Calif.)

"We're going to hammer guns on the anvil of relentless legislative strategy! We're going to beat guns into submission!" U.S. Senator Charles (Chuck) Schumer (D - New York)

"If someone is so fearful that they are going to start using their weapons to protect their rights, it makes me very nervous that these people have any weapons at all." U.S. Representaive Henry Waxman (D - Calif.)

"If you want an assault rifle, join the Army!" U.S. Representative Carolyn McCarthy (D - New York)

Then you'd better start digging your bunker. If the current stable of yabbos is the best the GOP can do, Obama's a shoe-in. OTOH, if one of the current stable of GOP yabbos does get elected, I may join you in that bunker.

Six Shot: I'd like to see the context in which these things were said. You know, context: the difference between road kill and a meal.

And now that you've hauled out your quotes, I'd like to see you demonstrate just how fragile our Constitution is, and how stupid you think our people are. And while you're at it, demonstrate exactly why you think the United States is no different from Canada or Britain. Here's starting point for you: British and Canadians historicaly have seen their rights as being granted by a higher power; Americans historicaly recognize no higher power than the people.
