Crosscut Jack, SASS #67759 Posted March 20, 2011 Posted March 20, 2011 Gateway is in the hospital in Grand Junction, CO. Was at the shoot yesterday and having chest pains. Shot one stage and was finally covinced he needed to leave. Met up with his wife and she took him to the hospital. It was a heart attack and he also needed surgery. No details. Last I heard he was in I.C.U. Maybe someone with more or later information will join in. Gateway is one heck of a partner. I am praying for him and all who love him. Crosscut Jack

Blastmaster Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 I saw Gateway Kid this afternoon and he is recovering nicely from having two stints (sp) put in and may be released either tomorrow (monday) or tuesday. Then will be off work an such for at least a week. The heart attack (chest pains, dizzyness, ect ) happened Saturday morning during Stage 1. In fact he shot the first stage with the symptoms and ran a super quick and clean stage. It was only after on the unloading table did the possee catch on that he was feeling sick and learned of the symptoms. It took about four of us to convince him to seek medical attention. He left w/o letting us escort/taking him; and he was on the operating table within 20 minutes after reaching the hospital. What determination and grit he has. It was a close call. Anyway, as of now, he dodged a huge bullet of a heart attack and is recovering nicely. Blastmaster

Grizzly Dave Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 Just as an aside, a few months ago I started carrying a small bottle of the 81 mg chewable aspirins in my gun cart. When I went to the doc a while back and they thought I might be having a heart attack, the first thing they did was give me three of those to chew up. Turned out I wasn't in case yer wondering. I hope I never have to use the ones in my cart for me or anyone else, but a good thing to have just in case. Take care of yourself Gateway Kid. Grizz

Grizz I had a jug of those 81 grainers ( milli-grainers to be more xact) in the trunk of my car. Never thunk I could've use them for an actual heart attack. Learned something here Grizz.
Grizzly Dave Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 I'm certainly no doctor, and you shouldn't take medical advice from the internet, but I have heard from multiple sources that chewing one adult strength aspirin, or multiple of the low dose aspirins if you think you are having a heart attack will increase your chances of surviving and decrease the chance of long term heart damage. But as I said, don't trust the internet for medical advice, do your research, ask a doctor, and if there is any chance you're having a heart attack seek medical attention immediately! BTW, chewing the aspirin gets it in the blood stream much faster than swallowing it. Grizz
