  1. Hello Folks, I would not favor limiting posting to members only. In the last year, we have had several potential members post questions and later join SASS. I know this as they asked me to change their name to their newly acquired SASS Alias. That alone is sufficient, in my mind, to not limit posting. Regards, Allie

  2. The dues structure is not the entire reason for members leaving SASS and just shooting monthly matches as unaffiliated shooters. In the past several years the Wild Bunch has been seen by many as trying to push shooters away. I know many shooters who no longer maintain their SASS membership, and will list their reasons. 1. Saying that match directors and people who set up and organize matches are cheaters if they shoot that same match. This comment and attitude resulted in the loss of many good workers and shooters. Some still shoot, but don't pay membership anymore. I tried to discuss this with Tex one night at a match, he was very rude and would not discuss the issue. 2. The disrespect shown to the Territorial Governors over the open and empty rule. For the WB to step in and over rule the TG's, showed great disrespect for the membership. Some shooters who left over this have returned, but many have not. When I wanted to become our club's TG some shooters asked if I was nuts for wanting to deal with an organization that does not respect its members. 3. The disrespect shown for shooters who wear jeans. The SASS rules allow jeans, yet members of the Wild Bunch have stated time and again that wearing jeans is not "cowboy". 4. The big jump in dues. Sure dues had not increased for many years, however the increase could have been eased in over two to three years. That way hardly anyone would have said a thing. 5. The loss of the monthly printed Cowboy Chronicle. This was seen by many as the main benefit for joining SASS and paying yearly dues, taking it away caused them to just quit paying dues. The new quarterly came too late to be of benefit; it should have been done in conjunction with the elimination of the monthly. I hope this answers the questions of why people no longer pay SASS dues. They still show up at monthly matches and support the local clubs, just do not shoot at SASS sanctioned (State and Above) matches.

  3. Prayers up for a speedy recovery. BTW, with all the "Racing Joints" being installed these days, maybe we need a Bionic Category, or maybe a Vintage Category for those with all original equipment.

  4. Thanks to Aunt Dunit and Doc Noper Sassy has her own new leather. Doc Noper's "race ready" shotgun belt was so slick I decided that I better just get me one ordered....of course I did not need the lip stick holder. I really like the single elastic loops but with slight gap between every two loops. Elastic is slick but with good grip on each shell. The elastic allows flexibility if the pull is more forward than just straight up per my leather styles and the gap between seem ideal when going to chambers. Hope the pic does the two rigs justice. http://

  5. We should let the soldiers on the front line decide what gun and caliber they want. Or, make the guys at the top who make the decisions go on the front line to see how it really works. Added comment: I am not suggesting that every soldier carry a different weapon and caliber of their choosing. I meant that the experienced front line soldiers should be included in the decision making process. If 90% of experienced front line soldiers want a .45 caliber in a Sig, then that is what should be purchased. Decision making from the bottom up usually works better than decision making from the top down. It is the "worker" doing the job that usually has the best idea of what is needed.

  10. My poor old octogenarian fingers often fail me. My last line was supposed to be "The dues structure is NOT what's holding down our numbers". :-) Almost invariably, innovate founders of organizations stay well past their time and finish their careers hurting and, often, destroying their outfits. They also lose sight of who their members are and what they want. I was hoping that, with the new organizational structure, SASS would also get new officers!!! Alas, .......

  11. "Some of y'all sent in yer applications before this was discussed, so as of a coupla days ago we only have FOUR (4, Quattro, one less than five), and fer you Marines, hold up the fingers of one hand... NO! put your thumb back down... shooters signed up for Plainsman." OK Griff, checked my confirmation email. It didn't mention Plainsman on there so I sent her an email to add me to the Traditional Category. Now you marines can use yer thumb!

  13. And I might add, if you need to touch it up down the road, nothing special to do. May want to lightly buff with steel wool, but really just rub it in!

  15. As both a Glock and Sig armorer I have mixed feelings. The Sig is a great gun no doubt about it. The drawback is it is twice the cost with twice the parts. I could teach a monkey to strip a Glock not a Sig. It's hard to screw up a Glock, there is one piece in a Sig that if put in wrong turns the gun into a single shot pistol until it is returned to the factory. The Glock is a much easier gun to train the average person on.

  16. I live in Montana... not many see-leb-erty's 'round these parts. Hank Jr. and Randy Weaver can be seen at gun shows occasionally. Becky Munden still shows up at Cowboy shoots now and again, but not to shoot, just to get out, I think. Sat next to Eddie Albert on a flight from Vegas to San Francisco about... 1975 or so. Coach. Must have had a bad weekend at the craps table. Met Bill Jordan in the restaurant of the Rainbow hotel in Great Falls in June of 1988. The Keiths were friends of my grandparents, and I met Elmer several times in my youth. Charlie Pride was a good friend of my parents way back before he hit it big as a singer, and I've met him a few times.

  18. The .45 has a lot of blow-by. Now that you know how to take it apart you will be able to keep it clean and happy.

  19. Rolan, I take umbrage at that remark. I am A LIFE member, have been since their (SASS) earlier financial distresses', when I opted in for the life to help out. The use of the forum site and an ad filled chronicle seems to be the only perks I get from them nowdays. And in answer to the question, what does an annual have to do in reguard to the fees?? If you don't put one on, they aren't interested in you or your club. I know this from personal contact with the HQ. And yes, I have assisted in putting on a major shoot. Yes, it is a lot of work. Lone Star Frontier Shooting club/CVV are class shooting groups and have the premier shooting facility in North Texas IMHO. Shot there many times, but health has kept me away the last too many months. 22. I personally use a Browning 1885 in 45 Colt. None of the Plainsman stages at BAC2017 will require anything more powerful. I can also give the choice of 5 different SASS legal shotguns for the side match (2 hammered, 3 hammerless, both types in 20" & 26"). I have four 1851s that I can loan out. I don't mind loaning them out... but, be advised: you borrow my guns, you use my ammo. I'll have plenty of 45 Colt ammo & 12ga for the shotguns. If you're thinking about borrowing anyone's guns, think about helping with the supply of balls, caps, etc. A couple of volunteers to help supervise loading the pistols will ease the apprehension that I, (for one), have about loaning out the pistols... I have a loading stand for the 1851s that will ease that process. I shot the entire BAC 2016 main match with these pistols... no cleaning except between day 1 & 2. Stay tuned as I develop the stages for a final round count.
