If you're shooting in cold weather, get rid of any grease. It will stiffen and slow the action. In hot weather it's OK, but in cold I use Starret machine oil. Thin and slick. Al

You will also note, flintlocks NEVER fail to fire in movies either. In The War Wagon, a Gatling fired over 65 rounds at the wall and pottery, WITHOUT a magazine. In fact, it never had a mag in the whole movie. (No clearance between the roof and gun). Magic indeed. Al

ASs long as it is a "JM" (real) Marlin, anyone with good mechanical skills and a degree of common sense, can make a good running cowboy rifle. Maurader(?) has a good tutorial on his site. If you want to spend mega bucks, then the following reply suggestions are very good. I have done my own as well as many others for pards, and all run as fast as the shooters can lever them, but NONE are short stroked or otherwise fiddled with. Now, that said, the new "Remlin" Marlins, are mostly crap, and take LOTS of fiddling to get them to run even half A$$ well. My experience, as well as MY opinions. Your milage may vary. Al

CCIs are a little smaller, thus tighter. Gotta be sure to SEAT them. My experience. Al

Personally, I'd stay away from the H&Rs. Had a couple and they were iffy, at best. Way too light, and don't lend themselves to good sights. That said, Shiloh are Very good, but very pricey for something you won't use too often, and a set of sights will cost almost or more than the rifle. My opinion (and it is just that), try for a Pedersoli Sharps or Hiwall. Good guns and sometimes available used. I use a 1885 Uberti Hiwall in 38-55 with good results. Lee Shaver sights are a good middle of the road line. Enjoy the recoil!!! Al

I have found this action to be an exercise in futility, as well as unnecessary. For my usage, (I shoot a Stoeger) I just narrow the front trigger on the outside (I am right handed) This allows me to "just slide off" the front trigger and land exactly on the rear. Been this way for years and have had NO problems with it. MHO on the subject. Al

Shoot the gun!!! "Trigger Wiggle" is a non existant problem devised by someone that makes a fix for the "problem". MHO. Been shooting the same Marlin for over 10 years without any trigger problems. Go with the spring kit from Pioneer Gun works or Long hunter along with the firing pin. If this is a non JM rifle, but a newer Remlin, you might have more problems ahead. This from MY experience, and not to slam an entripuner (?) making a living selling parts. Al

My findings: Uberti has a drift adjustable front sight, Pietta has a fixed post pushed into the barrel. Uberti has much better rifling in the barrel, The Piettas' I have had were almost smooth bored. The fit and finish has been better on the Uberti guns. Al

IMHO, the straight trigger is the answer to a non existant problem. Never had an issue with factory triggers. Al

I live in Texas, and Fredericksburg IS a great place to visit, and has a great shooting venue near by as well as Texas Jacks emporium. BUT, in my findings, it isn't cheap to stay there any length of time. Pricey accomodations. Also has the Nimitz museum. Fantantisc place to visit. But, all things aside, almost anywhere in the Lone Star State will be a positive experience. C'mon down!!!! Al (From the DFW area)
