  2. Doc, you very well know the answer to your question... relative scarcity, and complexity of design/build. And while a few might think they're "bad rifles for SASS", I think that's more a reflection on the Taurus reputation, observed continuing mishaps on the line, plus the difficulty in mastering their very different operation, when you have years and years of muscle memory to overcome. Some talented folks can span that bridge quite easily, while others struggle. I enjoy mine very much, but do struggle with it sometimes. Sometimes it runs like a house afire, other times it's like the firemen are gaining ground! I'm more than certain it's operator related, but haven't yet figured out just how to consistently get that house afire run. And while I limit my Lightning use to Wild Bunch, the difference in stroke length between the 1987 or mdl 12 and the Lightning is such that I'm still a bit "off" with the Lightning.
  3. I agree. The 250s I relagate to the rifle but once I did try them in a revolver and oh boy, where they interesting. As I have some 3500 200 grainers laying around I'll use them up but would certainly be open to experimenting with 180s and filler. This last weekend I discovered I have considerable stage time difference with full house BP loads recovering from recoil, the sight picture and re-engaging subsequent shots versus my normal smokeless Trailboss loads, thus my need to find a more suitable "go a little faster" load. I'll be experimenting with a couple of the suggestions in this thread. Thanks.
  4. "Why aren't pump action rifles more popular?" The fact that many had "issues" is well-known and is the reason for many people. The answer for me personally, and probably a few others, is that I have never had any desire to own or shoot a pump rifle for CAS. It sort of gets back to why many of us are doing this in the first place - we grew up on westerns. There were no pump rifles (nor shotguns) in those westerns. Therefore, they didn't fit my perception of what I wanted to be and shoot. It had nothing whatsoever to do with how reliable (or not) they ran. I was the same way with '97's - I enjoyed watching a skilled person run one but had no desire to shoot one. That is, until I had to get one for Wild Bunch and shot it in CAS a few times and found out that it is fun to shoot, especially when I started slam firing. I do own a Remington pump .22 that belonged to a brother who has passed. I've only shot it a couple of times and it is rather clunky and doesn't make me want a Pedersoli
  5. A couple of suggestions for ya. My Go-To Main Spring for setting up "anything" has ben the "Lee's Gunsmithing Gunfighter" spring kit. Available from Brownells and I think Long Hunter also carries it. Pietta recently introduced a nice reduce main spring. Should be available from VTI, EMF or Cimarron. The Wolff Main Spring is also OK (not the best).
  6. Since English is read left to right, even a lefty would conclude that target one was the left-most target. Being one of those which believe, "...if not expressly prohibited, I can..." I might be the reason SASS has stage conventions.
  7. My birthday’s on Mar 31. My dad used to say we got the wrong date it should have been April Fools!!
  8. Gunslinger - Actually, Cowboy 45 Special will load in 45 ACP cylinders right out of the box/bag. Unless the the 45 ACP cylinder has been miss-chambered. Dantankerous - Actually it's physics. If you're really determined to reduce recoil, you will also have to reduce the weight of the Pay Load. I heartily agree with reducing the Propellant charge however that alone ain't enough. I would suggest dropping to either a 180Gr or 160Gr projectile. My preferred filler for reduced loading is Cream-0-Wheat. L Luck - Annealing will eliminate the Blow-By that is gumming up the action. Pretty simple process actually. Your other alternative is to fire form 44-40 brass to 45 Colt which will also seal the chamber nicely.
  9. For you folks that don’t like self serve, I was at Home Depot this morning and all the self serves were closed . I asked the cashier why they were closed and she said people were stealing! Hmmm….could this be the end of self serve?? Maybe it’s just this store, not sure.
  10. It'd be more fun to have one born on Feb. 28 and the other on Feb. 29.
  11. Today
  12. You would end up leaving it at TSA, blade or no.
  13. Wouldn't it be fun to have been identical twins born just before and just after midnight on New Years Eve and New Years Day? I could have had fun with that combination.
  14. Going to try this soon https://www.facebook.com/share/YKosuDqJXDHVL673/?mibextid=WC7FNe
  15. True, but you don't HAVE TO BE most places unless you want to be. "I have nowhere to be and have all day to get there." I can't be hired, fired, promoted, demoted, transferred, laid of, and I don't have to take much from anyone. I have become very adept at telling people what I think and using terms that are not always polite and almost never politically correct. I buy things I want, but have difficulty justifying it to myself some of the time. I have more time for friends, hobbies, reading and watching videos, for going places "just because", meeting new people and reconnecting with some that have fallen off of my every day contact list. I can take time to do things that need done (or put them off for as long I choose to) and can start a new hobby or restart an old one. I can smile at pretty women and babies, stop to pet a dog, eat lunch or dinner at a new place or two....or several....comment on someone's hat or car or motorcycle, and take time to go watch pronghorns, eagles, horses, or just to look at the scenery. Being a widower (8 years tomorrow) I can have lady friends who are simply that: friends. I can also dodge the attempts to set me up with single women. Thanks anyway folks, but I have never had any difficulty meeting women (or anyone else) and I don't want any romantic entanglements. So welcome to a new sort of freedom. Take time to get used to it and practice doing nothing at all sometimes. If you're ever out this way let me know and we can share a meals, spin some yarns, and just goof off. Your choice. Oh, yeah: congratulations, too.
  16. ...but that li'l scissors has 2 "cutty/stabby" parts.
  17. I got mine off the SASS wire but it think Taylors & Co. Was the first to request these specs and put them on 73’s.
  18. Wife sends a text to her husband. "Honey, don't forget to buy BREAD when you come home from work and your girlfriend Valerie greets you." Husband: Who is Valerie? Wife: Nobody , I just wanted you to answer, to have confirmation that you saw my text. Husband: But I'm with Valerie right now, I thought you saw me? Wife: What??! Where are you? Husband: Near the bakery. Wife: Wait, I'm coming right now! After 5 minutes, his wife sends a message: Wife: I'm at the bakery, where are you? Husband: I'm at work. Now that you're at the bakery, buy the bread!
