Not Something I Typically Do

Brag, that is.

But at the slight risk of annoying my wife, I would like to brag on her a little. This evening I got to watch AB ride in and make the finals in Level 1 Amateur Select Western Pleasure at the All American Quarter Horse Congress. Many aren't aware of the dedication she has shown, the perseverance and literal blood, sweat and tears. She has overcome misfortune, health issues (hers and those of her horse) and stuck with it because she is passionate about it. Of course, she has had the good fortune of having a top notch trainer in Brent Tincher, who has been there through all the challenges.

So, congrats to my wife! Oh yeah, she also got another puppy. I told her it was a horrifically bad idea, and she said something about following through on those for nearly 34 years now. I didn't have any response...

Pretty cool.  That's a big show, you have to be pretty good just to make the finals.  Let us know how she does in the finals.

One of the biggest! She had a couple of bobbles in the finals that caused her to place low, but overall it was still a solid ride on her part. If I had to guess, and it is purely a guess since I didn't want to rain on her accomplishment, it was part her getting cut off by one horse, part fatigue, and part her riding through pain. Since an injury a couple of years back she deals with what is called Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) in her left foot. I don't really understand it, but it is a constant pain that can go from it simply hurts to agonizing. After her injury and that diagnosis, I questioned whether she would ride again, let alone show, so from my perspective this is an even bigger deal.

I couldn't be more proud of my wife!

I was lucky enough to have a good horse that could get me shown pretty well.  As a result, I was lucky enough to make it to the finals a few times.  I always hated that the finals usually start everyone back at zero, so whoever won the finals was the champion.  Seemed to discount the work and placement getting to the finals.  I usually just figured that anyone that made the finals was a winner, and the finals was just to decide what order they called out the names.  AQHA Congress is a big deal and making the finals there is a great accomplishment.  For those that don't know it's like winning End of Trail, but you have to qualify first to even participate.

Congrats to your wife.

You might do what Idid:  I told my wife I was smarter than she was and could prove it.  (Be careful where and how you tell her this.  I nearly lost an eye.)

Just explain that the proof is in who you married and who she married.  ;)
