A lot of the ones in the photo are Jeep Carriers.  I don't believe those that survived the war served long after.

The one closest was uss leyte, cva 32, later made cvs32.

Hell we even had paddle wheel aircraft carriers that plied the Great Lakes during WWII.  (Used for training pilots.)

Pulled out the 1946-1947 Jane's Fighting Ships.  As of 1946, the US Navy fleet strength was as follows:

18 Battleships

2 Battle Cruisers (Alaska class)

27 Fleet carriers (including the light carriers built on cruiser hulls)

70 escort carriers

31 heavy cruisers

48 light cruisers

367 destroyers

295 destroyer escorts

200 submarines

There were about 122 Escort carriers actually built. A couple of those were never commissioned. A few more were started but never finished.

 

Several were sent to the British as part of the lend / lease program.

Still comforting to look at.  We did it once.  We should do it again.  Blanket the seas with carriers and other nasty ships of war just to let folks around the world we can....and suggest we will use them if necessary.

 

Of course that will never happen as along as we keep electing woosie socialists to everything from the White House to garbage inspectors.

You might want to check out how much the rich pay as a percent of total tax receipts.  Lotta propaganda out there without adding more.

If every American billionaire paid 100% of what they own to the government it would fund less than a year of the annual federal budget.  No panacea there.

We could if we stopped giving away OUR money to every back woods, dictatorial, socialist, anti-American country and cause on the planet, including our allies who let us carry them but don't really support us, and started keep OUR tax money for US!

 

There are maybe a dozen countries that we absolutely MUST support and protect, but way too many have been riding our coat tails for entirely too long.  Many of them wouldn't even exist if we hadn't saved their unappreciative butts and a lot have become our worst enemies.
