Padding on the back of the shot shell belt

Recommended Posts

It must confirm to your body shape. No angling shells out.

A friend had such a belt, it definitely tipped shells out and was not legal. It was pointed out to the shooter, after reading rules and some discussion with RO instructors shooter agreed that it was not sass legal and stopped wearing it.

"Shotgun Ammo loops must conform to the shooter’s contour (i.e., not tilt out from the belt)."

Shooter's Handbook, page 4.

Let's see how many pages we can go with people arguing padding that does not tilt out is OK or not OK.

I just wear my shotgun belt loose.

This drops my belt down lower (under my belly - instead of on my belly button).

Gives me plenty of room for my shotgun shell grab.  While keeping my belt legal.

I think he's trying to say some of us have built in padding.

I'm attempting to lose some of my built in padding.

From a high of 360 at my worst down to 225 right before Covid back up to 290 and now back to 240.

Still got a ways to go to get down to 200.

But Ill feel pretty good about the padding situation if I do.

I started using a bandolier with elastic loops to keep my padding from being a problem. I've lost most of it and may go back to using a belt. Grabbing an extra shell because of a miss is faster with the bando though.

At EOT a couple years back a shooter had pad on inside of sg belt, shells conformed to body. He was not allowed to use belt by Match Director. He chose to cut the pad off his belt instead of borrowing or buying a new one. A lot of shooters using that style belt had removed the pads but he was unaware it had been deemed illegal. You also cannot tuck a bag or towel between body and belt where the shells are.

Chapter and verse (rule)?  I don’t recall a rule prohibiting doing so.  Educate me please.

Padding on the inside of an ammunition belt was ruled ILLEGAL by the ROC in 2013 due to it not being "...of traditional design...".

Quote

Cartridge Belts, Bandoleers, and Pouches

- Bandoleers, cartridge belts, and pouches must be of traditional design (e.g., bandoleers must be loose and not secured in any way to prevent movement).

SHB p.3

That falls under the same prohibition as padding the belt itself.
