WTB: Winchester AA Featherlite 12ga Low Recoil/Low Noise Shotgun shells

Recommended Posts

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I shot at my home range for the first time in four years on Wednesday this past week. Couldn't figure out why my shotgun loads seemed really "hot", until someone asked me after the match what I was shooting. *Facepalm* I bought the WRONG shotgun shells. The ones I bought are Winchester AA Light Handicap, but they shoot at 1290fps. What I should have bought were the Winchester AA Featherlite 12ga Low Recoil/Low Noise Shotgun shells, 26gram, #8 shot, 980fps velocity. I have been searching the 'Net high and low trying to find these by the case, and so far, I'm coming up empty.

I have a match in about two months and I'd rather not shoot these "hot" loads for two days if I don't have to. I am looking for sales locally in the Kansas City area at sporting goods stores too, but if anyone can help me out, I would certainly appreciate any source information. I do realize once you find a source, it's optimal to keep that a secret for supply reasons. But I am desperate at this point. Any help, guidance or direction would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Cimarron Casey

No help with sourcing LNLR shells, they seem to be pretty scarce and spending when I have seen them.

I assume you do not reload?

Mec jr can be found relatively cheap and components are available to duplicate the load your wanting. Probably not a huge cost savings vs store bought but you will not be searching for shells.
Or is there someone at your club that you can work out a deal to reload for you?

The Winchester 980 fps rounds are hard to find.  Daily searches are the norm now.   Ammoseek.com is a good start, but there are other sites that do not list there.  Also, Federal has a load that clocks out to 900 fps that used to be called a "metro" load.   As of right now, ammoseek has the Federal load, TGM 123 7.5 load listed from two sites.  Both, though show them at $16+ a box of 25.  Higher than even a year ago, but if you need them that's the price.

Also, rounds with a velocity of 1145 fps, higher than you want but doable, are available from Winchester, Remington and Federal and can be found in stores as well as mail order.

I've been trying to find them too. There aren't any on ammoseek and my Google searches have just turned up dozens of companies showing them as out of stock. I walked into 4 boxes of 25 about a month ago at my local Walmart for $12.50+tax. Meanwhile the standard federal and winchester shells are going for about $9+tax.

Ammoseek has the AA Handicap Target loads for $10 a box. 1oz loads at 1290 fps. Hotter than the LNLR shells, but lighter than the standard 1-1/8oz stuff my local stores carry.

I have found them at Walmart stores in Colorado but not by the case. They usually have two to four boxes when I do find them. Really hard to locate. Good luck. DC

Have you checked the Scheel's in Overland Park?  They have had the Winchester AA low recoil / low noise shells in the recent past.

Walmart has AA LOW RECOIL on a regular basis ( not every visit) but check out every time you’re in a Walmart

Some Walmarts carry them ($12.27 at one near me, though out right now), some don't.  There are Winchester AA and Winchester Super Target (white box) loads that are 1 oz at 1180fps will kick less than their 1 1/8 oz at 1145fps.  The WST shells cost less but might not eject well from a SxS but are fine in a '97.  On any brand, 1 oz loads will usually kick less than 1 1/8 oz.

If you are looking on retailers websites, search for AA12FL8 as that is the LNLR part number.

I've got about 20 cases at the shop, if you are local.

I would like to thank everyone who responded to my post. I cannot afford to reload as I don't have any equipment nor the where-with-all to do the reloading. I will take your suggestions and keep looking for ammo. Thank you!

You might want to look for a used Lee Load-all, they aren't that expensive and for a box or two at a time can work quite well.

Mack’s Prairie Wings in Stuttgart, Arkansas (the Duck Hunting Capitol of the World!) has all kinds of shotgun shells with free shipping over $99. I have used these Winchester AA XTRA LITE shells when the Low Noise Low Recoil are hard to find. I can’t tell the difference and it says they have them in stock.
