Spoon River Sam, SASS #33194L
Howdy Prairie Dawg... Is this rifle an older model with the shorter Carrier opening or is the standard size of the newer models? I can't remember those dates of the old manufacture. Thank you - Spoon
Prairie Dawg, SASS #50329
Larabee -- I have no problem setting up payments. Sam -- Carrier opening is about 1.61 inches. I will go down to the safe tomorrow, and measure my '73 (also in 44-40) and compare them. Check back tomorrow. Thanks --Dawg
Prairie Dawg, SASS #50329
Sam: The carrier cutout is the same as all my Uberti rifles. I measured an older Henry, a more recent 1873, and a more recent 1866. All have carrier openings the same as this one. All cycle & shoot my standard 44-40 round that I have shot for about 20 years. It is crimped in the crimp groove of a 44-40 bullet, and the cartridge measures about 1.578 inches. Hope this helps. Thanks --Dawg
King Medallion
Interesting. My 66 rifle has a semi buckhorn rear sight. Where is it marked BP? I have no idea how old mine is, got it from a guy in our club 8-10 years ago. It sure shoots nice.

Cat Brules
PD, Is this a black powder only firearm? Are you sure the “BP” in the square box does not mean “black powder”? What does the “BP” marking mean? How many rounds have been fired through this rifle? Will you please describe and post a “straight-on” photo of the damage to the right side of the stock? Carolina Reaper
BP would be the year marking - 2001 as Dawg stated

Will you please describe and post a “straight-on” photo of the damage to the right side of the stock? Hi Cat: When Italian guns are proofed, they are stamped with a date code. Here is a link to proof marks and date codes: http://74.220.214.175/~dakotask/nick/Italian_Proof_Date_Codes_1945_-_2030.pdf About 100-200 smokeless rounds have been fired through this rifle, which was then put in the safe & turned out that it became a safequeen. I'll photo the right side of the stock when I get home later today. Thanks --Dawg
Prairie Dawg, SASS #50329
Here is the mark on the right side of the stock. It is more subdued than the pictures make it seem. --Dawg

grey ghost
Does it have the tapped hole for a tang sight? The 2nd tapped hole is what I am referring to. I've had some yellowboys with the hole and some without Dang, why do you tempt with the fun toys, at least it isnt a 38-40, or I already would have signed the check.... Chas B. Wolfson, SASS #11104
The thought just occurred to me that YOU, of all people, are a "Closet Smokeless Powder Shooter." Well, at least the truth has come out. Just how many other "fine" firearms have you squirled away that have subjected to the same form of abuse? That shining star of a true BP shooter has been dimmed considerably. So much so, that I can no longer see it here in AZ. But that could be just the smog, I mean the smoke I generate. The sooner you adopt out that rifle to a proper home, the better. Hope all is well with you and the family. Chas B
Prairie Dawg, SASS #50329
Hey Chas: Nice to hear from you. Yep, I've been known to inflict that sort of abuse on guns, usually in the Winter, when shooting is all done indoors! We I to live in eternally sunny & warm Arizona, I would be more considerate! Stay Safe my friend. --Dawg
