Once in a while they'll open the airbox and a whole family of MICE will run out. If you live in the country, it is really difficult to keep cars clear of critters.  Have had mice, with no food in the vehicle, chipmunks that just tear stuff up, and two weeks ago a pack rat under the hood of a truck I drive nearly every day.  I have had some success inside the car with a stinky, expensive herbal pouch.  Friends in the repair business recommend dryer sheets, but they are bad enough to keep me out of the vehicle.
