There are a few youtube channels that show what mechanics have to deal with sometimes. They've shown this sort of thing frequently. Once in a while they'll open the airbox and a whole family of MICE will run out. Other things they show are absolutely frightening, such as brakes being held on with zip ties, or chassis' broken in two that people still drive. "Just Rolled In" is one of the best.

If you live in the country, it is really difficult to keep cars clear of critters.  Have had mice, with no food in the vehicle, chipmunks that just tear stuff up, and two weeks ago a pack rat under the hood of a truck I drive nearly every day.  I have had some success inside the car with a stinky, expensive herbal pouch.  Friends in the repair business recommend dryer sheets, but they are bad enough to keep me out of the vehicle.
