Snow and Blowers

Recommended Posts

Well, after years of procrastination, I finally went out and bought a snowblower err..thrower. At least that's what Craftsman calls it.

We have a side entrance garage and quite a bit of driveway to clear. Was doing it by hand until 5 years ago, then hired a service to do it. Since then the price for that is such that a blower/thrower makes makes economic sense.

Just finished putting it together and fired it up. I'm ready!

That means it'll probably never snow in this area again. If that happens, y'all can thank me.

Now here's something weird I just noticed. That pic is from a few years ago. I have no idea whose dog that is. Never seen him before. Never noticed him in the pic.

I think he photobombed me. Must have snuck up to get in the pic and then took off when I fired PacMan up.:unsure:

Got mine back in 85 and would not start back in 2004. This past summer got it fixed ($36) wouldn't you know it, had been hand doing and a thirty six dollar fix. So, I figure it will be a quiet winter. Well, they a saying it's coming in this Saturday night into Sunday. And to think it was 74 degrees Monday and 19 this morning. :(

He seems very interested in your ankle, like maybe he was getting ready to chomp. Guess he thought better of it! :D

I can't say what i call mine. It's not family friendly.

(I'll never buy another one made by MTD. Although to be fair, I can't park in indoors so some recalcitrance is to be expected.)

This is an updated version of the one I have. It works fine except for really deep heavy snow which we only get a couple time a year, maybe….

Looks like mine,Rye. Mine's a Troy-built, though. It's still buried in the shed, still using the mower to do leaves so it stays where it is for another week or so. Then I'll switch'em around and get it started. Thank goodness for electric start!:lol:

Single stage may be OK, but I sure go with the 2 stage and really get into throwing that white stuff. J.M.H.O. :D

about 12 years ago our tractor died (used it to push snow and cut grass). Transmission lunched due to snow pushing.

Bought a new mower/tractor and the salesman told me a snow blower is cheaper than the blade/chains/weights for the new tractor. Now I've got a 125 foot paved driveway and a large gravel parking area so I was suspcious that this little 2 stroke 16" single stage thingy would do much. He guaranteed it would move any snow we got or he'd buy it back.

Other htan the deep heavy stuff which can take 2 passes it's be GREAT! I can do the driveway in LESS TIME that with the tractor and no 'ice curbs' get created. YOu get that 9" snow you can't push far off the driveway then 6" more and suddenly the driveway is too narrow...or the road dept piles snow at the end of your driveway...no problem with the little snow blower.

Plus it can do sidewalks and fits in the car to take to grandmas to do her place (vs using her shovel).

I don't think they make 2 strokes anymore...it is zero maintence, i love it!

Yeah, that's the one I got. Looks likes it'll do up to 10". Most snowfalls here are 2" - 6", more than that is uncommon. If it looks like a big dump, I'll clear it once during the storm.

I know, some of you in other climates are saying, "6 inches?! That's a dusting you big weenie." That may be, but I'm getting older and lazy too. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

It almost makes clearing 150 feet of driveways fun

Mine's 700 ft. That's why I got the plow blade for the 4 wheeler. ;)
