Major Art Tillery Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 Thinking about finding some 32-20 pistols. I know Ruger had some on a limited run... But they command a nice price tag anymore. What are my other options? Uberti? If so are they any good for the game?
H. K. Uriah, SASS #74619 Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 Well, I've got a couple of Colt's. One is a 1st Generation, and one is a 3rd. No complaints about either one of them.
irish ike, SASS #43615 Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 I have a pair of Colt clones in 32-20. They are pretty much all made by two companies. Great guns and they cost 1/3 as much as a pair of real colts. Ike
Abilene, SASS # 27489 Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 I have a pair of Colt clones in 32-20. They are pretty much all made by two companies. Great guns and they cost 1/3 as much as a pair of real colts. Ike I don't think Pietta makes a 32-20, so basically it is Uberti. They are as good as any of their guns. Lighten the springs and smooth them up and they should run fine.
Larsen E. Pettifogger, SASS #32933 Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 It's pretty much take what you can find.
Mack Hacker, #60477 Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 Where clones are considered, this is my favorite. I think there were only 500 of them and they were out 10 years ago. They do show up from time to time. In addition to the features mentioned in the article, they have a soft light charcoal blue finish and one piece grips. http://www.riflemagazine.com/magazine/article.cfm?magid=68&tocid=930
Tom Bullweed Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 Original Colt Bisleys - .32-20 was the most popular chambering. These guns are 100 years old but they have much more heft than other chamberings due to the small bores. Guns will start around $1000 and go up, but they only increase in value over the years. I miss the one that I had; I shoot GF not and wish that I had found a mate for mine. New Colt SAAs can be had found $1250 each. Ubertis and Piettas are good if you can find the model you want. Rugers are great guns, but the .32-20s are overpriced. A good 'smith could sleeve the chambers and barrel to fit .32-20, but this would put the guns up in the $750 range each.

Major Art Tillery Posted April 4, 2014 Author Posted April 4, 2014 I believe there are people converting the Ruger .32 "Vaquerito" to .32-20. Hmm I thought that could not be done, do to the cylinder being to short for the 32-20?? Maybe I heard wrong... Hmm
Major Art Tillery Posted April 4, 2014 Author Posted April 4, 2014 What are your thoughts on shooting the 32-20? I always felt it would be a neat round for frontier cartridge....

jrswanson1 Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 What are your thoughts on shooting the 32-20? I always felt it would be a neat round for frontier cartridge.... I like it. 115gr lead bullets at original blackpowder speed is really light on recoil. I'm going to load up some with blackpowder later this month and try them out. Brass is kind of scarce, as they only do seasonal runs, but it's just a nice, fast cartridge. Makes decent coyote medicine out of a 92 if you can find one.

Ol Number4 Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 My partner and I have been shooting Uberti Clones in 32/20, really 32WCF, with all BP for over 12 years we have some of the usual glitches but have faired well in BP categories all over the U. S.. Mine are 12 years old and still "Ticking". Same for my "73 Win clone in 32. OL'#4
Roger Rapid Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 I have a 1st gen Colt SA in 32-20 that I've owned for eons. Good shooter mixed with good sentimental value. Years back I had to put aftermarket cylinder in it because the original was so pitted that ejecting a shell needed too much force. Wonderful caliber where recoil is virtually nonexistent. Only problem with 32-20 is knockdown power on any of the mechanical targets. ..RR Post-script: When I had started CAS I had two different gunsmiths tell me I was crazy using an original Colt for CAS because of its value, so I retired it and went to Uberti's (.45LC).
Major Art Tillery Posted April 5, 2014 Author Posted April 5, 2014 I believe I made a deal for a set, so I will see how I like them. I know I enjoy shooting my Marlin chambered in 32-20...
