I guess since Indians and Redskins was too ethnic, we we need eliminate Padres for being too Catholic

PC crap!!  Changed the names of two well respected teams with great, long histories because of some misguided wannabe political influencers who never had any personal connection to the indigenous community decided that “Indians” and “Redskins” were offensive and derogatory names.

More of the “Cancel Culture” bovine excrement that’s permeating our society!!

People have forgotten that “COWBOY” was once, and in some circles still is, a

derogatory descriptive!!  Buccaneers, Pirates, Sooners, Jayhawks, and Tarheels, as well as Yankees, Packers, and many more were historically used to degrade certain groups!!

Every one of these groups took those labels and turned them into badges of pride and self respect!!

None of them needed some outsider to try to change history, attempting to erase part of their history to satisfy their own sense of outrage or propriety!!

You must not be a sports fan! 🙄
Those teams have had those names for at least 3 years or more!

This kind of thing goes back a LONG WAY!!

The Houston Colt 45s became the Astros, only in part because NASA moved to Houston!  A bunch of people were adamant that a name change be made after the Kennedy assassination!

The Washington Bullets became the Wizzards when pressure from certain circles became overblown!!

Sadly, good people were treated very poorly in order to make these things happen!!  None of these changes were exactly voluntary!!

I remember when all of this started and there were groups calling for all teams with Indian/Native Americans to change, the Seminoles said heck no and gave their blessing to Florida State.

The only one that I had always thought was offensive is the Redskins.  All other Indian names like Braves, Chiefs, Seminoles, Utes, etc. were honoring them.

When Columbus landed in 1492 he didn't think he was in India like people think. India did not exist then. What is India today was called Hindustan then.

I grew up loving the NFL but I really don't watch it anymore because of the woke virus running rampant in sports.

Apparently the members of the tribe that claimed the namesake found it offensive to be displaced.  Sorta like the Aunt Jemima fiasco.

Also Cardinals and Metropolitans (Mets).

I'd like to see the Rays go back to being the Devil Rays. Well.....given the celler-dweller record they had as Devil Rays and their record since the name change, maybe it's not such a good idea....

Never heard the idea that he thought he was in India. He thought he had reached the Indies.

Heck, I was looking over baseball teams/records/playoffs etc and could not recognize the baseball team based out of Washington

So figured what else have I missed?

Then I’m like, where are the Expos?

 It’s so confusing

The Oilers  go to Nashville to become the Tennessee Titans (since there’s no flow to Nashville Titans)  only to have football revived in Houston as the Texans but the Nashville Titans occasionally breaks out the Oilers uniforms ti confuse the old farts in the old folks home watching sports center. I’m waiting to see Earl Campbell highlights, think it’s NFL films replays…..

The Browns move to Baltimore to become the Ravens only to be revived back in Cleveland as the Browns.

The Raiders are like certain elder women in my family. Oakland to LA, back to Oakland, now in Vegas.

Then there’s the Cardinals….are there even cardinals in Arizona?

The only certainty is at the end of the day it’s just a business, the business of entertainment.

Yep the commanders are being sued by a large and influential group of Native Americans over the name change brought about by a group of non-Native Americans and their cancel culture BS.

Commanders face lawsuit: Redskin identity in question

<quote>

The old Redskins logo wasn’t a generic Native American face. It was the face of Chief John two guns White Calf of the Blackfoot Indian tribe. He was on the side of the Washington Redskins helmet for 48 years. Walter Blackie Wetzel, another Blackfoot member, led the movement to get him on the helmet in 1971. White Calf was well known across the country and in parts of the world, being vocal about U.S. policies and the mistreatment of Native Americans. He championed native issues in Washington, D.C., spending time with President Calvin Coolidge. He was also the inspiration for the face that appeared on the U.S. Mint’s famous 1913 Indian head nickel. He was also a famous spokesman for Glacier National Park in Montana. He was so famous in the United States that upon his death in 1934, he received an obituary in the New York Times.

Several schools are also reclaiming the Redskin name after do gooders eliminated it.

<quote>

Representatives from NAGA were at town hall meetings on the controversial change in Sandusky, advocating that the change isn’t necessary and that the term Redskin isn’t racist. Billy Dieckman, one of the representatives, addressed the board “The term Redskin is a very honorable term to me, I’m a Redskin. I’m a Redskin warrior and I’ve proved myself in battle. Now, I’m willing to fight these kinds of battles, even though it’s a different kind of battle because what is right, and how you’ve been treated is not right,” Dieckman said, as the Sanilac County news reported.

Probably, ridiculous that they changed the Indians to the Guardians and the Redskins to the Commanders!
Looks like there’s a lawsuit going on…
