Phryne Fisher's pistol?

Recommended Posts

She usually uses a gold plated S&W Hammerless and has also referred to her Mauser Pistol, a C96.

In the TV shows she has a gold-plated Smith Chiefs Special, which, to judge by her outfits, would not be invented for another 30 or more years.

Her revolver changed with the season, at least two were used.

That's what I was thinking, too.

I never much liked that series but I could get along with Dot.  :P

Just watching an episode with the Missus and her S&W 36 makes the sound of the gun cocking, then showing the gun being carried uncocked. Gotta love film editors...

Forty, I want to thank you.

I had heard of this woman before, and meant to read the books, and then got sidetracked and totally forgot about her.

Your question reminded me, and I am now about a quarter of the way into Cocaine Blues - the first book in the series. The first chapter, I wasn't really sure of. But it gets better and better and better as it goes along.

In the first book she mentions simply a small pistol.

In the second book it has now become a small pearl handled pistol.

I've just started the third book. She is on a train, and the car has been gassed. She stumbles to her purse and

"she tore it open with her teeth, extracted her Beretta .32 with which she always travelled, and waveringly took aim. She squeezed off a shot that broke the window."

And with the window broken fresh air came into the train car.

With a Beretta 32, in the 1920s, it would have to be this.

I have a Beretta 1915 like this picture but it is 9mm Glisenti.  I'm trying to read the first book but is difficult with terms she uses.

By the way, what tv channel does these videos show on?

Wondered that myself. Also don't know what 19-82 for the weight means.

Deciphered part of it. . and - look are almost identical but are different

Cal: = .32

O. A. (Over All) length = 5.85"

Bl. (Barrel) Length = 3.315"

Weight = 19.82 ounces

Rifling: = 0.86-0.97  Still not sure what the heck this means.

That would be .086, not .86.

.097 would be close to a tenth of an inch. And it seems like it kind of deep for rifling. Doesn't it?

This screenshot is from the same book. Different gun. But its specifications make sense.

Mr Smith wrote this book in 1946. This book was printed in 1965. I'm afraid we won't be able to ask him what the hell it means cuz I'm pretty sure he's going to be dead.

By those specifications the difference between bore and groove is 0.007"

I checked out the whole series from my local library...not a bad way to go if you don't mind occassionally cleaning off some PBJ , snot, or tuna salad from the disc.  Do it first.  It saves aggravation..
