Mezcal Charlie
There is a Great Western made in California in the fifties so it’s the original for sale. It’s nickel and 7.5” barrel 45 cal and looks pristine curious about value. Hard to get a good idea online because there are a lot of Great Western II’s. No pics sorry. What do you think. Three Foot Johnson
I got a good deal on this Great Western Arms .357 Atomic because it needed some work - $225 a couple years ago. It needed a trigger spring and the firing pin assembly was missing. I had a spare trigger/bolt spring, eventually found the firing pin bushing, cap, and spring online for $34, then turned out a firing pin on my ol' Jet lathe. Kind of rare, as only about 2000 Atomics were made for a couple years in the mid-50's - this one was probably made in '56. I shot it in a match just to say I did. Two centerfires sold recently on Gunbroker; another Atomic for $707.48 (984262468), and a .44 spl (984234953) for $438.56. Neither was exactly "pristine". A decent looking .38 spl was bid up to $825, but didn't meet the reserve (985119416). Five .22's are also listed in completed auctions.
H. K. Uriah, SASS #74619
What's the asking price and caliber? Mine's a .44 Magnum and I got it 2 years ago for around $750.
Larsen E. Pettifogger, SASS #32933
The engraved revolvers used by John Wayne in The Shootist were Great Westerns as was the 7.5" revolver used by James Arness in Gunsmoke.

PaleWolf Brunelle, #2495L
I foolishly traded off a Great Western .357 Atomic many years ago (pre-SASS). When I originally received it in lieu of a $50 debt payment, it had a broken bolt and a hair trigger. I took it to an LGS where it was repaired using Colt parts. A couple of months after I'd swapped it out, "Guns & Ammo" magazine had an article mentioning how desirable they had become to collectors. 2021 Wire thread

I think at this point the only "common" things I don't have are a Ruger and a Marlin. Not sure how much I want to get some of the "uncommon" things. Three Foot Johnson
Serial numbers of kit guns supposedly started with a 0.
Mezcal Charlie
No this is a turn key pistol. 3 digit serial no.
Three Foot Johnson
I've read a lot about them, but it's a pretty convoluted story to try and figure out. A three character serial number would be GW1 to GW9, making it one of the first nine production guns. If it's GW100 to GW999, it would still have been in the first few weeks of production in 1954, if not the first few days - how long would it take to make 999 guns? From what I've been able to glean, there shouldn't be any one, two, three, or four digit numerical serial numbers without a letter prefix, and the only five digit numerical s/n's should be between about 11501 and 18001. If it is a kit gun, that's a whole 'nuther story, because outside of supposedly starting with a 0, I don't know any more about the numbering protocol on the kit frames, so I suppose there could be customer assembled kit guns with three numerical digits from 001 to 099, and continuing on into the four digit range. Maybe the 0 was incorporated into the GW prefix numbers too, such as GW01253 or 0GW22251 or somesuch.

Mezcal Charlie
I had a Colt Python (used) in the early 1980’s I sold to but a 1911. Oops! But to answer I would have bought a CMP M1 Carbine I should have bought 2nd Generation Colts when they were affordable. I could have bought many more of those used Pythons. There was a place in SC where I was living that bought and sold police guns and gear. Right across from SLED headquarters if memory serves. And it seems that they had a lot of used police issue. Cheap.

I'd owned 27 cars by the time I turned 27! That was the year I sold the ONE I should have kept... a 1950 sedan delivery with the single rear door & 1969 Z28 runnin' gear I installed in 1969... just needed a paint job! Mezcal Charlie
I didn’t have that many but I had a chance to buy a Richard Petty special w nose cone, spoiler, rims and shaker hood scoop all there and a 440 motor for $400 in 1980. My father said no more projects in the garage or driveway so there’s a quarter mil down the drain.
