Well, *&%$!

Last year my wife was diagnosed with melanoma. Started with a mole and moved into a lymph node. After 2 surgeries and a course of interferon, thought we had it licked until the other day. It's now in a lung and will be removed in a couple of weeks. Treatment options and outcomes look good, so we're positive.

Dang, it's a sneaky and insidious disease.

If you even suspect a problem with melanoma it should be dealt with at once. Hope your wife is OK. Prayers for you and yours. kR

We're in a remission zone right now with Schoolmarm. She's back doing everything she wants to do. Next round of tests and scans starts with X-rays on Friday. Then it's a CAT scan on Tuesday followed by blood tests, an EKG, a medication screening, (she takes the clinical study medication and waits two hours) then another EKG.

The last round of tests and screens showed no sign of cancerous activity and the original lesions had become scar tissue. The cyst on her thigh bone was completely gone and new bone growth ahd completely filled in where the lesion had eaten away at her femur!!

I pray that it never returns and now I'm hoping some of our good luck passes along to others!!

I'm saying a prayer for ya'!! Comfort and healing, may it find and bless you!!

Slim,

I don't want to hijack your thread in any way but since I'm now a guest I can't start a new topic.

Malignant melanoma as you now know is a very serious cancer left untreated for too long it is almost always fatal. Fortunately it is easily diagnosed without any invasive tests and when found on time almost 100% curable with again non invasive treatment in a doctors office.

I urge everyone to examine your significant others body and be aware of every mark or mole. Make yourself aware of what a skin cancer looks like and if you see anything that even looks suspicious get their butt to a dermatologist.

Everyone no matter what your age should see a dermatologist every year it's quick and painless, avoid tanning beds and use sunscreen every time you are in the sun.

I have been down that road twice and I assure you it's not something to take lightly. This is a disease no one should die of .

Thank you all for your kind words and support. We have a meeting with the surgeon on Thursday to find out how and when the procedure will go.

The good news is that a detailed scan called a PET scan, performed last Friday, showed the cancer is still confined to the area we know about. Press on!
