I wonder if they are aware of what that is?

There's an estate sale in my town. Starts tomorrow. And there's 150 something pictures of stuff that will be for sale on the website.

Saw this picture and wondered.

The wings are, I believe, Nationalist Chinese. Flying Tigers.

That's fine. They were the good guys.

But that light blue hat? That's Wehrmacht.

They probably do. Nazi paraphernalia is very popular with some folks. Me? H*** No! But I have known people that collected all sorts of Nazi items.

I'm aware.

But let's say, just for example, that Grandpa collected pornography. Now he has croaked and we are having an estate sale.

Are we going to put out all those dirty movies and skin mags?

Yes, I am aware that there are probably people that would want to buy it. But I don't think I would have it in the sale. Seems like there would be more people offended and run off then there would be people wanting to buy.

And that was the only piece of Nazi paraphernalia in the entire 156 pictures. I'm therefore guessing that der kinder did not know what grosspapa had there.

The guy appears to have liked hats.  I doubt he thought much about that hat - not into Nazi stuff, but it doesn't even look real.

They all look like recent replicas/reproductions.

That actually happened to my wife’s niece. She and her boyfriend were helping her mom clear a lot of junk out of the house following the death of mom’s husband.  They found a lot of particularly naughty porn.  Needless to say that all went to dump and not to the garage sale where his fishing gear and other stuff was sold off.  Tactfully they didn’t inquire about whether or not mom was aware of his erotic collection. 🧐

When a friend's grandfather passed they found a  considerable collection of antique Oriental erotica, paintings,  carvings,  and the like, as well intimate toys.  They were going to toss it,  but I suggested that they try to contact a collector,  or at least an auction house. They managed to find a collector and netted enough to put some of the great grandchildren through college.

I guess the CSA badge would also offend.

Well, I sometimes wear a Confederate Private uniform, based on a what may be a distant relation, since we seem to share the same first, second and last name.

He was a member of the 27th Georgia Infantry.

My late friend, riding partner, and CAS shooting buddy, The Lone Paladin, was black and wore a Union Officers costume whenever one or the other of us was going to wear their Civil War costume. He sometimes took me prisoner at sword point, for pictures and a few laughs.

Since the family, on my Father's side, was in the Carolinas around 1640, I guess having a Confederate in the family tree isn't so surprising. (There's even a county in South Carolina with the family name.)

Mind you, the majority of the ancestors seem to have migrated North, along the Eastern seaboard and the descendants those that remained in what became the USA, after the Revolution, were in the Union Army.

When I was involved in reenacting I met some guys, on black and one white.  One time while a bunch of us were standing around and got around to introducing ourselves one person made mention that they had the same less than common surname.  Black guy said,  "That's because his grandfather (or maybe it was great grandfather) owned mine."   The families stayed close after they were freed, helped each other out as needed.
