Denver Pyle

One of the great Western character actorsFor some reason I was researching him the other day. I forget why exactly. But I founf out how many movies/ tv shows he did.

I had no idea that he'd been in that many movies and tv shows.

 

I always remember him for portraying Texas Ranger Frank Hamer in Bonnie and Clyde and Uncle Jesse in The Dukes of Hazzard although I wasn't a Dukes fan.

The very definition of a journeyman actor.  Did his job, made a comfortable living and career with his performances.  Can't ask for more than that.

That was the Dukes of Hazzard, where he played the patriarch of the Duke family - Uncle Jesse Duke.

 

Did they ever explain, on that show, why those three young people were living with their uncle? Bo and Luke were brothers, and Daisy was their cousin, but she didn't call him "Dad" she called him "Uncle Jesse" also, so that's three separate branches of a family that's all living together.
