Love them! The1st one I've had for 25 years made by f.i.e. Italian, it's the same as my heritage rough rider. Got a smoking deal on the heritage found it right around  $100. Probably going to buy another rough rider.

I'm lucky in that many of the local clubs around here allow, and have a .22 class. One club even has a dedicated .22 only cowboy shoot twice a year, on an off Saturday from their normal monthly date, where only .22 rifles and single action pistols can be used along with a normal cowboy shotgun. I shoot my .22's maybe 3-4 times a year. It's a load of fun. We've also picked up some new shooters who've come out to watch and then came to a shoot later with their .22's, had a great time, and then purchased standard cowboy guns to join the game. I certainly understand not allowing them at state and national matches, but for the local clubs looking to get more people interested in our sport it's a more inexpensive way to do so.

 I am too, especially after I said, “it’s impossible to get Black Powder .22”.  It’d take me a month just to make enough ammo for a match!

Yep, there are a couple around here that started allowing .22 during the “great primer shortage” (has that really ended?). They call it the “Varminter” category and I might just try it at a monthly match too!  It’s just SO much fun!

It sounds a little like the Miami Vice matches we do once a year at Green Mountain Regulators.  No categories, just MV, but any firearms and calibers can be used, as long as the lead bullets are within SASS velocities.  It really is great fun, and like you noted, a good chance to get out those firearms that don't get shot much.

I have a great desire to do a ".22 Cowboy Match," but nobody here in New England seems to hold one.  The interesting question, and which the video seems to answer, is, "What to use for the shotgun?"  Just a regular old 12 gauge would work just fine, it seems.  No need to get a .410.  (Although, that might be fun as well.)

Oh, yes, @Purgatory Smith puts on a Miami Vice match every year down in Ashland, Oregon.  It’s a hoot!

I was mostly just lookin’ for an excuse to buy another shotgun   I was thinkin’ about something like the Winchester 9410 (Henry makes a lever-action now too!). But, now I’ve got my eyes on an old Browning Auto-5 (hopefully I can still get a magazine extension and get it up to 6 rounds in the tube…).

Looks like fun.  My kids have aged out of buckaroo, but I've held onto their .22s on the off chance I get an opportunity to compete in a rimfire match.

If it wasn't angle eject, I'd like to get one of those.  Sadly, Cimarron has no plans to market such a chambering in their more accurate reproduction of the 94 Winchester.

As far as .22's to use go, I have a pair of Colt revolvers and a Colt, an Uberti or a Winchester to choose from for the rifle.

That is a really nice looking loadout!   I’ve always fancied one of those .22 Yellowboys.

Any SASS legal shotgun is allowed in our .22 class. You could use a 410 if you wanted to, but at .75+ cents a shot it would be the most expensive ammo on your cart.

Yep, that’s one of the things that puts me off the 410.

Certainly reloading .410 would be the way to go but finding hulls would still not be cheap and easy as 12ga.  I rarely see .410s in buckets at the unloading tables.

Yeah this is true… and it’s just another machine I’d have to set up to load yet another caliber.  I’m probably better of sticking with 12 gauge.

Well, .444 Marlin brass will chamber in a .410.   Use that and capsules to make shotshells.   Far cheaper than "real" .410 all brass shells.

When I was in the market for this, I had a line on both this 66 and 73 at the same time.  Just like their .44 caliber cousins, he .22 73's and 66's are remarkably similar to each other, but being essentially reproductions of the .22 caliber Winchester 73.   

Interesting thing about the 66 .22.   Winchester never made such a beast, and Uberti uses the exact same frame for that they use for their Henry.  In fact, given how there is no loading gate, the argument could be made that it's a .22. Henry, not a .22 66.   But, the .22 73 doesn't have a loading gate either so....

Anyway...  I'd love a sidematch where you need a .22, a "main match" and "long range" repeater.   I could easily come up with 3, or maybe 4, batteries where the guns are all of the same "design."
