The first thing I thought of when I saw that title was the ritual cannibalism practiced in the Christian church.

"This is my body. Eat. This is my blood. Drink."

im sure we always ate meat and we always ate vegetables and fruits as my mother told me so , she also mentioned children starving ....but you can only trust your mother so far .............sometimes she was just trying to make you eat stuff she made that was really bad tasting stuff

One theory is that other species of primates leading up to modern man died off  because of vegetarian diets. Protein in meat made the brain grow. This is an evolutionary theory that’s been around a long time.

Cannibalism was probably practiced on some level in early man,

It was practiced into the 20th Century and I wouldn't bet money that it has stopped at the tribal level in some places

At least that was sheer survival, not a desired method of food gathering.

I was thinking more of the head hunters in Burma and wondering how many Japanese soldiers ended up as a meal.

I also know of at least once incidence of African soldiers that were in Burma during WWII capturing, torturing and then eating some of the Japanese soldiers.
