I was wondering if there are any folks knowledgeable about the Remington Rolling Block that could help me identify one in my collection.  It was sold to me as an antique, Model 1867.

Here's a few images of the guns markings.

As you can see, it's a 12 gauge shotgun.

Bottom of the barrel...

No idea what any of these markings are.  :)

In the most recent issue of American Rifleman, there is a short article about Rolling Block shotguns that were recently imported by Simpson Ltd, so I went to their website, and found this one.  It's in really nice shape, and I think it was well worth the asking price.  I am looking forward to shooting it.

Can anyone offer any guesses as to any specifics about the gun?

looks like a remington rolling block to me that may be a contract rifle - they did a lot of that in that era , but ill defer to anyone more knowledgeable than me - everyone ?

I seem to remember that Springfield Trapdoor rifle were converted to shotguns and called foragers and used for meat hunting. Maybe your shotgun was something along those lines

Do you plan on using it at a match for fun?

Remington action. Possibly first Swedish delivery.  Rebarreled as a shotgun.  Proofed barrel may have been ordered by a Swedish gunsmith for conversion.  More varieties than you can shake a stick at.

Well in all likelyhood, I won't be shooting again till next March at the earliest, probably April.  At least, locally.  If I make it out West, who knows?

My recollection is that some small number of U.S. Rolling blocks were converted to shotgun for officers to use sport / bird shooting in the Western U.S. Military posts. Reference somewhere in the library, but not tonight.

Uhm...  Okay.

But it's actually a shotgun.

Can you be more specific?

:)

I am pretty sure it's a No. 1.

Do you have ANY reference books... Or do you just like posting pictures of your guns?
