Alpo Posted November 18, 2023 Posted November 18, 2023 This is The Daughters of Joshua Cabe. Josh, Buddy Ebsen, and his partner Bitterroot, Jack Elam, are about to have a showdown with the bad guy, Leif Erickson. Now Jack has been in many westerns, and you see how he's wearing his gun. I don't think Buddy ever had one on before. I'd hate to try to ride a horse or do any work wearing that gun belt.
Father Kit Cool Gun Garth Posted November 18, 2023 Posted November 18, 2023 Possibly a "Waist Bandolier for firearm"?
Rip Snorter Posted November 18, 2023 Posted November 18, 2023 Darn, an actor in a movie has to do anything that would work in or resemble real life? Who knew.
Cold Lake Kid, SASS # 51474 Posted November 18, 2023 Posted November 18, 2023 Well, not on a horse and the grip at natural hand level, not a long pull to clear leather................
Marshal Mo Hare, SASS #45984 Posted November 18, 2023 Posted November 18, 2023 Makes it easier to find.
Sgt. C.J. Sabre, SASS #46770 Posted November 18, 2023 Posted November 18, 2023 Buddy was a shooter in real life. He even had a reloading setup in his dressing room on "Beverly Hillbillies". There was a picture in an article in "Guns of the Old West" about twenty years ago, IIRC.
Alpo Posted November 18, 2023 Author Posted November 18, 2023 That's the only Western I could remember him in. Jed Clampett carried a rifle. Georgie Russell carried a rifle. And his character in Northwest Passage carried a musket. Barnaby Jones carried a pistol but it was a snub nose 38 and I think he wore a shoulder holster. Just don't ever remember seeing Buddy with a full size pistol before.
Pat Riot Posted November 18, 2023 Posted November 18, 2023 I actually ran into Buddy Ebsen in Marina Del Rey, CA back in ‘83. Literally. We were both walking towards each other watching a gorgeous redhead get into a Corvette. I apologized and he laughed and said “It looks like we have the same taste in women.” He wasn’t wearing a gun at the time that I could see.
Colorado Coffinmaker Posted November 18, 2023 Posted November 18, 2023 Well, He also has some problem with those Front Fly Buttons. Bet he can't get that gunbelt off fast enough

Alpo Posted November 18, 2023 Author Posted November 18, 2023 There is a very cool scene in that movie. Spoiler alert, for those that have not seen the movie. Josh had a wife and three little girls, and his wife died and his sister took the little girls back East to raise. Now they have changed the homestead laws and people are going to have to refile, and he stands a real good chance of losing his land. But if he can bring his daughters out from St Louis, they can file on his land also and the family will still own it. So he goes back east and he finds out that one daughter is a nun, and the other two are married and living with their families in New York. Damn. Then he gets an idea. I'll get three girls and legally adopt them, and take them out west and they can file. He got the idea while he was talking to this hooker in a saloon. Then he gets Charity, a girl from prison. Karen Valentine. While they are in a dress shop getting her something better to wear, they see this other girl, Ada, a pickpocket. Sandra Dee. Unfortunately the plain clothesman saw her also, and was going to arrest her when Josh bumped her and took the purse away from her, then bumped into the victim and pointed out that "you must have dropped your purse lady". So now he has two daughters, and the three of them go down to crib row to pick up the other girl. Josh tells the two girls to wait right here while he goes and gets their sister Mae. Leslie Ann Warren. And he walks off three or four steps, leaving these two pretty women by themselves in the bad section of town, and a crowd of men start to gather. He stops, opens his carpet bag and pulls out a seven and a half inch Colt, walks back in hands it to Charity. Says he doesn't want her and her sister to be worried while he's gone. Then he turns around and takes about two more steps and she rears the hammer back and fires a shot that goes underneath the toe of the boot of the closest man. "Is that how it works Daddy?" And he smiles and nods, as the crowd of men quickly disperses. During the showdown, from my first post, the three girls decided they weren't going to let the bad guys shoot Daddy. So they go down to the general store and get guns. Both of the other girls get double barrel shotguns, but Charity gets a Colt. She was the one that did the shooting back in crib row. Possibly she's more familiar with handling a short gun than Daddy is.

Alpo Posted November 20, 2023 Author Posted November 20, 2023 I'm glad you mentioned that one. It sounded familiar, so I checked my movie catalog, and it said I have that one, so I went looking through my westerns, and I do have it. Now I need to watch it.
