I've not seen the ash on forehead in public for years.

Had a manager that did some ministry work at the prison and was a devout catholic.  He had the ash on the forehead at the office.  One of the not so bright guys pointed it out like something unintentional.

I don't see why he would be "not so bright". Kind of like pointing out to a Jew that he's still got his hat on in church. Wouldn't be not bright. Just not know that Jews wear their hats in church.

I'm 68. And I consider myself fairly bright. I have heard the term Ash Wednesday. Until a couple years ago I had no idea what it meant. It has something to do with Catholics and Lent, and since I wasn't Catholic and didn't do Lent it didn't really matter. So if I saw someone with a spot of ash on his forehead, I might point it out - hey Joe, your forehead is dirty.

To which I would have said, "Ash Wednesday.". Or, if we were really good friends, "IT'S ASH WEDNESDAY, YOU HEATHEN!"

As one who was raised RC I think I can safely say that I've experienced most of these:

This wasn't nearly nearly his only shortage of knowledge.  Once he was going to take a television and adjust the picture down so small it would become a laser.  Another time he was going to move to Polynesia because they allowed you to have "cummerbunds". (Meaning concubine)

That would be interesting. I would like to see him wear his girlfriend around his waist.

They never seemed to head east, north or south...always west.

I wonder how fast you'd have to travel for it to stay light out.

Depends on your latitude and time of year.
