Widder, SASS #59054
Looking down the barrel, we all know which is the lands and which is the grooves. BUT, when the bullet is fired, do the marks on the bullet made by the lands and grooves become the grooves and lands? ..........Widder
Pat Riot
Yes, the grooves become lands and the lands become grooves. If you combine the two you get Grooveland...Enjoy

Maybe-You should go back to fix'n Marlin 94's to occupy your free time........ Think of the bullet, as the mirror image to the bore....... When WE refer to Lands and Grooves, it is in reference to the 'high ridges of metal' (lands)between the low spots (grooves). On the fired bullet, the 'Depressions' made by the rifled 'lands' are called grooves and the 'Impressions' caused by the rifled grooves are now called lands. For some reason, I was just thinking this is a strange way to use terminology of a fired bullet when trying to match it with a particular rifle. The bullets 'land' diameter would equal the rifles 'groove' diameter. Or, the rifles 'land' diameter would equal the bullets 'groove' diameter. ..........Widder
