Dr. O. R. Vet
My wife found this on the internet today. Here is a clear example of why we must defend the 2nd amendment with all our might! --------------- Australian Gun Law Update; Here's a thought to warm some of your hearts....From: Ed Chenel, A police officer in AustraliaHi Yanks, I thought you all would like to see the realfigures from Down Under. It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced by a new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by our owngovernment, a program costing Australia taxpayers more than $500 million dollars. The first year results are now in:Australia-wide, homicides are up 6.2 percent,Australia-wide, assaults are up 9.6 percent;Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent)! In the state of Victoria.....alone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent.(Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not and criminals still possess their guns!)While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steadydecrease in armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the past 12 months, since the criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is unarmed. There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of the elderly, while the resident is at home. Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public safety has decreased, after such monumental effort and expense was expended in 'successfully ridding Australian society of guns....'You won't see this on the American evening news or hear your governor or members of the State Assembly disseminating this information. The Australian experience speaks for itself. Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws affect only the law-abiding citizens.Take note Americans, before it's too late! FORWARD TO EVERYONE ON YOUR EMAIL LIST.DON'T BE A MEMBER OF THE SILENT MAJORITY.BE ONE OF THE VOCAL MINORITY WHO WON 'T STAND FOR NONSENSEAUSTRALIA: MORE VIOLENT CRIME DESPITE GUN BAN ---------------------------- The NRA has been conducting Election Action Meetings throughout the United States--in every state--for interested local individuals to find out how they can help "get out the word" about protecting our 2nd Amendment rights. There goal is to talk to, either by phone or by personal visit, every 2nd Amendment proponent that we have in the USA to try and rally all of the support at the polls come Nov 8th of those believers in the 2nd amendment. You are not going to be asked to call anyone that NRA is not pretty sure is for the 2A. They have a couple of new tools--apps for your phone or tablet--that help you when you talk to someone. It is scripted text of 3 questions (4 if you get an affirmative repsonse to #3) that you ask people when you contact them. If any of you are interested in helping in this effort, contact the NRA---www.NRAILAFrontlines.com--to get more information or volunteer or be directed to your state's Campaign Field Representative. We don't want to be like Australia and not even be able to shoot our SAA revolvers, lever action rifles or SXS shotguns! Dr. O. R. Vet Link to comment
Chili Ron
Howdy, That got started in 1996, so whats up with the one year thing? Grabbing some statement off the internet is worth about what ya paid fer it. I like accurate documentation. But that's just me..... One red flag, are they talking about $900 to destroy one gun? Hmmmmm..... Best CR Link to comment
SHOOTIN FOX
Purchase the gun at "fair market price" , store it and then destroy it. Link to comment
Lone Dog, SASS #20401
yeah, that story is 10 years old now but just keeps on kicking around the innerwebs with the out-dated "12 months ago" statement retained. I would imagine things are even worse now Link to comment
Major Crimes
First lets understand we are comparing apples and oranges here. Australia has never had the gun culture and ownership numbers that the USA has and we see their use and carraige (in the main) completely different to our cousins (not the kissing kind!) Over Seas. This is a very balanced review of the facts done by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and is well worth the read for a balanced view of our (I stress OUR) situation. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-04-28/fact-check-gun-homicides-and-suicides-john-howard-port-arthur/7254880 Link to comment

Did it go up down or remain the same. Link to comment
Colt McCloud, SASS #65003L
That's a story that was confirmed as false on Snopes and a couple other verification sites quite some time ago. Always worth checking a story before you post it. But point still well taken !!!! Link to comment

Did it go up down or remain the same. Yes knife/sharp homicide went up (as a percentage). http://www.aic.gov.au/statistics/homicide/weapon.html Note all this graph shows is that of the given number of deaths they were caused as a percentage by gun V's knife/sharp. It doesnt say the number of deaths has increased. Here are the total figures, which do show a steady decline in numbers per 100,000. http://www.aic.gov.au/statistics/homicide.html From this study suicide rates are pretty steady. This does not disc means of suicide. http://www.livingisforeveryone.com.au/uploads/LIFE_fact_sheet_3_final.pdf Again, can I stress that I in no way think that this experience could or should be replicated in the USA. That is a decision for you and no one outside your country should be buying into this. Link to comment
