Captain Woodrow Cahill, SASS # 54363
You don't suppose the high crime rate might have something to do with all the activity of the drug cartels and all the smuggling that goes on between Venezuala, Colombia, and points north? Nah, couldn't be.

Texas Phil Peeno #50923
I have a friend who is anti-bullet and he always quotes the X% of shooting death regardless of law enforcement, personal protection, accidental or criminal. He says that by restricting gun ownership or gun types shooting deaths and criminal activities WILL go down. I always ask him if he has the statistics for stabbing deaths or vehicular manslaughter. Should we also restrict those as well? Since we already have strict illegal drug laws, why are drug related deaths still remain the same or fail to decrease. He hates me. Also, the mayor of my city have aligned himself with Bloomdork's Mayors Against Illegal Guns coalition. I asked him how does he propose to eliminate illegal guns. He said that his association is personal and not the city's. I told him that by attaching his name the city comes with it. He never did answer my question. Some people do not understand that protecting oneself and his/her property is unquestionable. No one has the right to tell anybody that they can or cannot protect themselves. Anti-gun celebrities and politicians carry firearms or have an armed bodyguard to protect them. Why do they have that privilege?
Hardpan Curmudgeon SASS #8967
Texas Phil, direct your friend's attention to Scotland, where they first banned guns, then swords, then kitchen knives, and now in some areas have even banned glass bottles in pubs - lightweight plastic only! Phil, here's an excellent article written by a psychatrist on this very issue: "Raging Against Self-Defense" ... http://www.vcdl.org/new/raging.htm It's probably the best piece ever written on the subject. "Here criminals don't use legal firearms," Izquiel said. No kidding. Seems to be a common problem.
