  3. Didn't mean to make a secret of it or anything, and hopefully not violating any rules re advertising (apologies if that's the case), but these are made by Dan Parmenter in Indiana, his web site has lots of photos: Murphy Custom Gunleather . Dan has been great on the phone and in emails back and forth, and I'm looking forward to shooting this season with his holsters.

  5. Shirttail Bess has no problem with multiple shots from an Ultra carry II in full load 45 acp. I'm thinkin if the powers that be think a woman can't handle a 1911 or similar weapon in 45 cal they are being chauvinistic. Any body that is in decent physical condition should have NO problem with that caliber. kR

  7. Howdy If he is a highly respected smith, and the springs he works on keep breaking, something is wrong. I'm not saying you should mention his name, but hammer springs breaking in a Colt is quite rare. There are several ways to tune a hammer spring so it exerts less force. Done improperly can cause damage. Just for the fun of it, check and see if there are horizontal grinding marks running across your springs. If so, the grinding marks set up what are called Stress Risers, providing a perfect place for a spring to snap in half. Tuned springs should be perfectly smooth, with no horizontal grinding marks left behind. Hopefully your problem will be solved with the Wolff springs.

  9. What is the REAL news? I check out radio broadcasts and websites for Fox, NPR and BBC. NPR is a very left group but their people are more professional than those at CNN or the big 3. I figure that the real news is somewhere in the middle of the three sources. I think that there is much to learn from what the news reporters do not say. When was the last time that you heard a report about a homeowner using a firearm legally to stop a home invasion? Why not talk about businesses that are doing all the right things in the right manners?

  10. 73 gates are different than 66 gates. They are much stronger. The loading gate in the photo looks like it should be reinforced before even using the gun. Doesn't matter how "strong" the metal is from the photo it appears the metal is so thin it is not going to hold up for competition shooting.

  12. The holster is a left-hand model with gun situated for right hand. Now there is yet another idea to ponder.

  15. GCK, I laud the club for doing this. BUT, here again, crops up the problem we have. We have CAS range space for only 4 stages, and we get to use it ONE day a month, for approx. 6 hrs, and have to remove ALL targets etc from the range at the end of the shooting day. Pray tell me how we could put on an annual?? I asked the same question of SASS and received NO REPLY.

  19. Assuming you are not shooting B-Western, where you'd need a buscadero rig (low slung, double strong side) rig, then I'd suggest you get a conventional set up like Mernickle's High Performance rig and have him make you a third holster for cross draw. That way, you'll have matching gear for either double strong side or cross draw shooting. The extra holster is about $150 IIRC. I bought a B-Western rig before I really knew what I was doing, and used it for a year. Switched to the HP rig last year. Mernickle stuff is top grade, and Bob's a hoot to talk to on the phone. With the Mernickle HP rig, you can move the holsters around to suit, so you have flexibility in positioning them.
