Where did this silliness come from of verifying your age when accessing online sites?

CA put in a law restricting access to anyone under 18 from looking at firearms related materials, so it appears most websites added it (age verification) to make sure they didn't run afoul of that law and sued.  Texas, put in a 'morality' law that makes you send/on file age verification (id) to 'adult-oriented' websites, to restrict access for the <18 group.

Idiot Politicians, catering to an uneducated, low information electorate, who think measures like that will solve the problem.

We here in Canada see and experience this almost every day, as low information voters clamour and get more gun laws, affecting legally vetted and Federally licensed firearm owners, while the party in power actually reduces the penalties for violent criminals who the ones committing the crimes.

Really.
