Yup.. the Shovels did it best!

I like the sound of my cammed up Shovel.  Warm idle is “Ka thump, Ka thump, Ka thump…”

It’ll idle at about 200 rpm!!

Sweet!! I had an evo with a cam and it would idle real sweet around 500. A few mechanics said it was bad for the lower end,so I put up around 700.

Since I converted mine to closed oiling system, I was able to raise the idle oil pressure a few lbs.

I don’t let it idle that slowly normally. It would make it overheat since oil is the only coolant. Also idling that slowly may cause the roller crank bearings to damage the crank pin!

I only let it idle that way when I’m showing off a little!

I am paring down my collection at last.  But I may need to keep the Scrambler...

I came very close to buying a Triumph Scrambler, but chose the Kawasaki Versys thinking it would also be a Scrambler type motorcycle. It is not! But, I love riding it and with semi-aggressive tires it is almost gravel road safe. :D Almost!

NO!!  I only set it that low when I’m showing off how good it runs.  It normally idles at around five to seven hundred.

We set the engine up to run with a closed oil system. I use the long “spin on” oil filter and it has a large oil cooler mounted in between the frame and the front fork. The primary is sealed and runs on Evo primary lube.  The engine doesn’t leak ANYWHERE and hasn’t for over twenty years.  It WILL kick out a small spurt of oil from the crankcase breather if it sits without running for a real long time, say two or three months.

I have an old S&S Super B carburetor with an accelerator pump kit and the pull up enrichment valve installed and I can change the idle with a twist of a thumb wheel.

It will start cold before it turns over three times if the carb is full of gas. Just pull up the enrichment valve and hit the button.

..... for them California roads, ...... right?  🙃

Sadly; YES!  The roads in California - possessor of the FIFTH largest economy on earth, if the governor is to be believed - are among the worst is the US.  They are unbelievably bad.  I keep the Scrambler for the 210 freeway, and trips into Hollywood.

Sadly true,

Many secondary roads in California look like something you would envision encountering in a third world country.
Also, some dipstick in power at the DOT authorized quick setting concrete with minimal finishing for Freeway and Highway repairs. Sometimes the repairs are worse than what was there before the repair.

New Mexico is another state with crappy secondary roads.

Would you be kind enough to pass my regards and seasonal greetings to Jeff and Jimmy.

I still listen, but usually the podcasts.  The broadcast is Monday from noon (my time) and I can't always hear it.

Thank You
