Major Art Tillery Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 Thinking about having the caliber engraved on the bottom of carriers on my rifles.... I have an idea of what I want, but looking at other options Who has had this done? Look good? Pictures? Or any other type of engraving? Thanks, M.A.T.
Driftwood Dan SASS #62738L Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 I had this done for my 1873 and I still am shooting very very slow. I guess all the engraving has lots of wind drag. Driftwood Dan
Chas B. Wolfson, SASS #11104 Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 A basic caliber on another

You could stamp it, engrave it, or just use a magic marker.

Larsen E. Pettifogger, SASS #32933 Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 This is how an original Winchester 73 in .32-20 is marked. The early guns had no markings as they only came in .44-40. After the .38-40 and .32-20 came out they started marking the carriers for caliber.

Thank you
Oak Ridge Regulator Posted January 15, 2023 Posted January 15, 2023 I will second Jim Downing https://thegunengraver.com/ he has done the back straps on two of my pistols and a side plate on my 73, he does great work, he is fast, and his prices are more than reasonable, super guy to deal with, certainly worth calling and asking him about what you would want

Montague Kid Posted January 21, 2023 Posted January 21, 2023 I bought mine used this way. But I learned this was done by Jim Downing along with the rest of the rifle. MK
