Nimble Fingers SASS# 25439
https://www.gunbroker.com/item/960530741 the above link is a box of ammunition that the seller is claiming to be “commemorative” because he thinks it was commemorating SASS. I don’t have a problem with his price, I have a problem with him describing the box commemorative and not collectible. It is my feeling that unexpected or novice collectors might get the wrong idea and buy it thinking it was “commemorative” and be worth more. Does anyone know of a listing of commemorative ammunition that Winchester has put out that is authoritative? Wouldn’t have a problem but he is using the SASS application on the back to call it commemorative. Thanks
Abilene, SASS # 27489
I see incorrect info a lot on GB, whether purposeful or through ignorance. Caveat Emptor!
Savvy Jack
I see a lot of ignorance everywhere. As far as Winchester 44-40 commemorative ammo is concerned......there is only three. If more than three, I am ignorant if there is a forth! https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Jy0pGqWPRx2HOQqufbcnEM1lv6tCWBJsCOB8vLIDOIg/edit#gid=1860800684
Griff
Gee, I got a bargain on the box I bought at a local dealer: $40.00! I'm guessing in this seller's dictionary, "endorsed by" means the same as "Commemorative"?!
Seven
it will say on the box if commemoritive or not. John Wayne, O.F. Winchester etc. most others will be collector. some say cowboy action, which are loaded to cas velocity and safer in older guns. then there are vintage ( not commemoritive but collectable. Savvy Jack
Winchester 44-40 Commemorative Ammunition I don't think any of the three say anything about "Commemorative" There are many more that are not 44-40, but only three that are. 1. 1976 - Little Bighorn Centennial, 1876-1976 2. 2007 100 Years of John Wayne 3. 2016 1866-2016, 150 Years 1976 - Little Bighorn 2007 100 Years of John Wayne 2016 1866-2016, 150 Years

Badlands Bob #61228
I've got a box of that John Wayne 30-30 ammunition. It's been kicking around in my ammo cabinet for years. I don't even have a 30-30 rifle. I think it was a Christmas present years ago. I didn't realize it had any value. Maybe I can trade it off for something I can actually use. Cholla
Definition: The same ammo in a fancy box that will get damaged with normal use.

Winchester doesn't have time to manufacture 44-40 ammunition, but they got time to manufacture safe queen ammunition that costs even more!! The John Wayne does have fancy nickel with I think John Wayne headstamp! I also think the 150th is nickel but with normal headstamp

Maybe I can trade it off for something I can actually use. Of the three I have found it to be the least expensive of the three. The .44-40 is in nickel plated shells with jacketed semi wadcutter where the .45 Colt is a lead round nose and more popular. Those 2 usual sell north of $100, prior to the craziness of ammo shortage where a regular box of .44-40 or .45 Colt is getting close to $100 for a 50 round box. Have a Winchester 94 in .30-30, let me know if you want to sell it and we can talk.

Nickel plated brass with the headstamp "Duke" opposite the .32-40Win marking.

No there was also nickel platted brass on the three that celebrated his 100th birthday, .44-40, .45 Colt and the .30-30, the ,44-40 & .45 Colt were paired with the 1892 commemorative rifle, like the .32-40 was paired with the 1894 commemorative rifle. So while it is possible, I believe he has the .30-30 in the black box. I would be willing to buy the box of .30-30 for $40 plus shipping to FL, say another $10 after the holiday if Badlands Bill wants to sell. I can send it Zelle. He can decide. Badlands Bob #61228
This is the box of ammo that I have. Notice that the corner of the box was torn while being opened. Since this is a commerative box, I assume this might affect the value? Full disclosure. All 20 rounds are in the box with Duke stamped on the head. Nimble Fingers, if you still want it, I'll be glad to ship it to you at your offered price.
J.D. Daily
Years ago when I wasn't reloading 45 Colt bought Winchester cowboy ammo that came in the same box. In 1st quarter of 2020 I bought milsurp M1 Carbine. The only ammo I could find at a LGS was Winchester Limited Edition. ".30 CALIBER, Carbine Ball M1" on the brown cardboard box. The box of 20 cartridges is packed inside a wood box. I have 10 22LR 50 round boxes packed in a similar wood box which was sold by Cabella's as an anniversary commemorative. I also have a hinged wooden box with Winchester printed on it that had 250 rounds of 12 ga. shot shells in it.
