Marshal Mo Hare, SASS #45984 Posted July 27, 2021 Posted July 27, 2021 “The British are coming” was made up by a poet. Everybody was British.
Alpo Posted July 27, 2021 Posted July 27, 2021 Several years ago I read a learned article on Paul Revere's ride, and it said that most likely he would have been yelling, "The regulars are coming". It further said that, like the Marshal said, everybody was British, so saying "The British are coming" would be foolish.
DocWard Posted July 27, 2021 Posted July 27, 2021 In the spirit of pedanticism, most likely "the regulars are coming," or "the regulars are out." However, still funny.
