At that time, the Army facility was concentrated on the eastern shore of the lakebed. It consisted solely of a wooden building, several tents, and a wooden water tower. It was manned by a detachment of approximately 20 men from March Field, Calif. They moved to El Mirage and the Southern California Timing Association was the governing body. Went to HS with the son of one of the founders, and speed record holder Tony Capanna. He owned Hot Rod City in Torrance, Ca. OLG
