Best CR To me they would be worth nothing. Too much trash and zinc. Go direct to the junk yard and buy lead.
Cliff Hanger #3720LR
Wheel weights come in several different alloys Old weights are lead. Looking at end of weight they look like tear drops. More recent weights are zinc/tin weights. Looking at end of weight they look like trapizoids. And the dreaded steel weights. Using a magnet on the end away from the steel clips at the center, the magnet will pick them up. There are the stick on type weights. They can be either lead old style or zinc/tin. Melting temperature is different and the weight can be separated in the pot if the temperature is raised slowly from 650F up. The lead will melt first. Michigan Slim
I see quite a few lead weights here. Drives my wife nuts when we walk through a parking lot and I'm going lead. Zinc. Zinc. Lead.
Chili Ron
Howdy, Lead wheel weights been melted down into barbell plates back in the 1960s. Look like lead pies. I guess I should have tried ebay.... Best CR
Springfield Slim SASS #24733
If melted down already, then about 1.00/lb.
Forty Rod SASS 3935
Makes me wish I had kept the approx. 400 pounds of linatype lead I got when the local paper computerized. It was fairly hard lead alloy, not suitable for muzzle loaders, so I got rid of it. (Stupid, stupid, stupid!)
Tom Bullweed
I pay $.50/lbs for antique window weights. I get 20-40 pounds of free new battery lugs per month at work. I just picked up 45 pounds of lead in 20 minutes at a local range. Pistol targets had complete bullets Rifle remnants were in many pieces.
Chili Ron
Howdy, Thanks. At least I have an idea what to ask for this. I just need donations for my next ride. I spotted a more performance oriented suv. A man has to know his limitations. Best CR
Warden Callaway
I can generally spot zink weights fairly well. Or just tap a suspect weight aginst something hard. If it had a "dink" sound it's likely zink. If it has a dull thud, it's lead. Here is a good video.
Three Foot Johnson
The spot price of finish lead is only 88¢ a pound, and a recycle yard will typically pay no more than half spot price, but I see Craigslist ads asking $2.00/pound or more for wheel weight ingots. Personally, I wouldn't pay more than 50¢/pound for "dirty" lead - wheel weights, old lead flashing, old pipe seals, etc.
